    Me too.

Sunderland are surely the bigger club with more long term potential. Maybe there's something behind the scenes?

I always classed Sunderland as a bigger club but in the famous words of neil diamond money talks.

As others have said, it's not really a step back. Money talks. After Oneill helped sort their finances theyre in a much better position than a couple of years ago and probably will be looking to spend more in the next few windows. The one weird decision for me was the timing...

No loyalty in football. Money talks. Wonder how long he will last at Stoke.

Why does it? Got Hamilton promoted to the top flight in his first job and beat Celtic away for the first time in 76 years. Left them for Norwich who he got promoted to the Premier League beating their biggest rivals Ipswich in the semi finals. Went to PNE and did a really good job until the board saw pound signs and sold a number of his assets from him and expected him to replace them with players from the pound shop. Went to Sunderland who are a big club with huge fan expectation. Was their 4th manager in four seasons at league one level and he succeeded where Jack Dross, Phil Parkinson and Little Lee all failed.

He's a bloody good manager and he was my number 1 choice on here to be our boss when he was between the PNE and Sunderland jobs. He has earned the right to spend the cash of the richest woman in Britain.

I might be wrong but let go at Norwich and Preston, no chance of a Premier league club only way is down unless he takes Stoke back to the Prem which at the the moment looks a tough ask.

Was going to post the same. There are plenty of ex premier league managers that will fancy a tilt at it.

Maybe he thinks job security at Stoke is better. Or maybe just didn't see eye to eye with the (Norwegian I think) head of football.
Some out of sight reason for leaving I'd say

Just a poor joke as when we get a good coach we like and a new job comes up they are always linked and we have a BBS meltdown.

Lack of money despite their owner being a billionaire where's Stoke's owners seem happy to spend and write off debt.
