Nearly forty years since we signed him and I still can't believe we managed it! :D

He had an outstanding goals to games ratio.

Better than a goal every two games, if my memory serves me well.

Aston Villa won the league. They then won the European Cup, the bloody Champions League for heavens sake. Their main strike force was Peter Withe and Gary Shaw. If, for whatever reason, neither of those played, next in line was David Geddis. And we signed him. And he was every bit as good as that sounds. Unbelievable signing.

Yes we sold him to a promotion rival for shy of 73 pence I think it was.

At the next home game we had the unedifying spectacle of the Chairman and Secretary of the Official Supporters Club being ejected from the ground by the Police after their protest at the then Chairman of the Club Geoff Buckle. Their 'breach of ground regulations' was to hold up £5 notes from the Terrace in front of the Directors box.

Should have got 30 years in my views.

    Plus ca change

    This is true:
We've sold you to Birmingham David.

Nah, you're alright, I don't want to go.

Like we said, you've been sold to Birmingham.

I'm not going to Birmingham, I like it here.

If you don't go to Birmingham, you'll be in our reserves and never play for the first team again.

    Reyt laiker.
Scored on his debut against Grimsby, the ball was crossed from 2 foot behind the goal line, right in front of me and my dad in the corner of the Ponty/West stand. The linesman waved his white stick to no avail....

When my dad was a footy scout at middlesboro...I was fortunate to meet him (he was in charge of the youths/acadamy...or help run it).
I asked him about his transfer to brum.....and sure enough he was called in and told he was being sold despite his protests that he didn't want to leave and very happy at oakwell.
I was gutted at the time and it still bugs me to this day. I rate only Ashley Ward as better striker in my experience of watching the reds.

Trevor Aylott, David Geddis, Ashley Ward, Neil Shipperley and Paul Wilkinson. They're the best centre forwards I've seen play for us. I'm too young to have seen Mick Butler.

Paul Wilkinson was still good but past his best by the time we got him. Aylott and Shipps were good, but Ward and Geddis were a different gravy.

Hirst should be up there too but we sold him way too early.

Different type of player but Derrick Parker was my favourite.
    Andy Rammell weren't bad either...

Yea totally agree...I just about remember Mick Butler...who was an absolute rose amongst thorns at that time and epitomized the gritty barnsley tag. He had that ability to jump for a header and hang in the air that half a second more (bit like Steve cooper) he seemed quick and lively and scored most of our goals or seemed to.
