The only problem with that performance is it is almost impossible to pick a Man of the Match. Thomas was all over them and if his shot against the bar had gone in he'd have edged it for me. Andersen and his defence were solid. Collins made some excellent saves and blocks to snuff out chances when they were played through. The midfield worked very hard and kept their discipline despite both Connell and Wolfe being on yellows. I suppose Cole just edges it in a game where there were no weak links.
Said to my mother...when she asked the score on 89 minutes .....its 2 nil Mum to the reds but don't get too excited the referee will most likely find 3days and a further 69 minutes injury time to allow the piggies to win... Well done to Duff and all his coaching team and a massive masive well done to the lads for what's sounds like am excellent shift that they put in ....enjoy the rest of the weekend don't forget to raise a glass for Gaz ( cs) too he'd have loved that result as much as the rest of us do...
I thought we very much deserved that. Wednesday seemed as sluggish as we were against Wycome.....and we were as impish as Wycombe in the same match. Our passing was good and we were first to the second ball all game. Their right back had a mare and with only Bannon playing well they struggled big time. It looked like they just turned up and thought their football would overpower us, we also seemed better on and off the ball. All played well ....special mentions for Cole ...who played the line very well and Connell who (although one paced) picked all the right passes and looked a class act. Well done reds...well done duff. 4 points in last 2 games....I thought we would have none.
If Carling did weekends! Barnsley deservedly win at Hillsborough, keep a clean sheet, preceded by Celtic humiliating Rangers and, finally, it's my birthday tomorrow. I'm particularly pleased for our goal scorers, as they've hardly been prolific so far this campaign, to notch their goals in such an important fixture.
Oh, and lets try and enjoy our victory, without the need to find fault with any of the players, or Head Coach. Also, try and rise above the need to point score against fellow fans.
Anybody that knows football understands that's a needed foul and an acceptable yellow........ what do you think Duff would have said if Wednesday would have been allowed to break and score???
he's definitely got that in him, but on this occasion it was just a case of 'taking one for the team' for me. nothing reckless in it. wasn't a bad tackle or anything like that, he just pulled him back in a dangerous looking counter. personally, if I was duff I'd be patting him on the back for that.
Their player reacted badly, as you’d expect, so they both fronted up for a couple of seconds. Nothing more in it.
To be honest if I'd known you were "listening on the radio" I wouldn't have wasted time responding. It was a good professional foul that stopped a dangerous attack. To suggest he needed replacing off the back of it shows a lack of understanding of football. Yellow cards are an occupational hazard for a combative midfielder and there'll be plenty more to come. Petulant yellows are a different story but this definately wasn't one of them.
