Keep hearing this from various pundits, but they only really lost Rudiger didn't they? As an out and out starter and top defender. Huge, huge loss as I think he's as good as Dias and Van Dijk, but Christiansen hardly played towards the end and an easy one to replace. Looked worse when they were set to lose those two plus Azpilicueta. Arguably stronger now they have Fofana and Cucerella, with Chillwell back. Granted, they eventually let Alonso go as well. Be happy if Potter gets it. Those British managers who put in the hard yards, successfully, deserve the opportunities rather than the recycled 'elite' who ultimately get sacked everywhere they go. A cool £20m release fee though. Good on Brighton for having that in place.
My Leeds supporting mates all think Potter will take over at Chelsea, one said that brighton has a a good start to the season, soon as I say they had a good result on the weekend they all go quiet! wonder why?
That's my worry, I think he deserves a big job. But not at Chelsea. If things aren't looking right within the first 6/12 months, will Chelsea sack him? I expected it to be a little different with Boehley, but evidentially, even getting specific players for Tuchel, he's let him go this early in the season. Will Boehley look at the success Abrahamovic had over his 20 years here and try and replicate it? Sack managers continuously, mean whilst spending bucket loads on players. I don't think Potter will fit into that system. I'd much rather him have gone anywhere but Chelsea, I think he's a brilliant manager and deserves time. Interestingly, Chelsea sold Billy Gilmour to Brighton this Summer, they all raved about him, and he's being linked with Liverpool already, wonder if they'll get him back if Potter does join? Maybe he has a buy back clause like City do with Lavia & Porro?
But the other side of the coin is if he doesn't take this job now will he still be in the frame the next time a big opportunity comes up? He's performed miracles at Brighton but he's massively over achieving, and they could easily fall off. I think Chelsea are enough of a basket case that even if he does end up getting sacked his reputation and standing won't take too much of a kicking, so I see it as a very well paid shot at the big time with little to lose.
A very true point mate. I am very glad he is potentially getting this opportunity, he definitely deserves it. Just like fresh new faces are slowly creeping in elsewhere, instead of the Redknapp,Bruce, Allardyce, Pardew, etc roundabout. I do hope you're right in thinking his reputation wouldn't take an hit. I suppose it depends on how well the players take to him, I think the fans are buzzing about it, a majority of them anyway.
Boehley has said it was the right time to start a change of approach. I was hoping that meant instead of throwing cash at it, they would build slower and spend less.
Would be nice if Potter remained at Brighton imo; see how far he can take them. What a refreshing change that would be methinks. Especially in today's game and so on
Aye but it only takes a run of 5/6 games without a win and then the pressures on and he could lose his chance... just a shame its at chelsea!
My Chelsea season ticket holder friend told me over the weekend that things were not right at Chelsea, Tuchel had fallen out with some of the more influential players as well as a frosty relationship with the owners He said he would be gone before the end of the month , replaced by Brendan Rodgers Apparently Rodgers is still highly rated at Chelsea and by the new owners
Apparently they were going to sack him after the match anyway, regardless of result. No chance mate. Got far, far too much credit in the bank. Only pressure will be on him if they finish outside top 4
Shook his hand without washing it after using the toilet. Left Conte needing to sanitise for a week to get rid of the smell of Frankfurter.
When youngsters are on hundreds of thousands a week, it'll be worth it for them. Crazy nowadays isn't it!
