'Official' mourning period from today until SEVEN days after the Queen's funeral. No obligation for cancellation of any events. At organisers' discretion.
That's the "Royal" mourning, Truss is expected to announce a national mourning period expected to be 12 days ending the day after the funeral on 19th September.
Really poor decision for many many reasons. Some of them being..... 1) It's such short notice fans aren't being thought about, especially those travelling from afar like away supporters with train tickets. 2) We have a cost of living crisis with businesses struggling, but choose to cut off revenue supplies. Yes the game will be rearranged but on a night when crowds/footfall will be down on what it would be tomorrow. 3) The mental health of people. Many will have their struggles during the week and look forward to a few hours at the game. Did we learn nothing from lockdown? 4) Cancelling an enjoyment for thousands won't force them to mourn someone if they don't want to.
It's a good job it wasn't Prince Albert that died .... mourning went on for years, and years, and years .......... Even Obbi would have recovered after that long. Oh hang on ...
Hope Barnsley Football Club explain why when it's apparently up to individual clubs what they do, why they have chosen to inconvenience so many people and businesses at such short notice.
Definitely right decision IMO!! The queens passing is a very sad for for the country and its right that respect is given to her
