Wow, so anyone who's supposed to be working tomorrow can have the day off can they as a mark of respect? Will pubs/Cinemas/restaurants/shops be closed as a mark of respect?

    Load of old ball-locks.

If you are so shook up, spend the weekend in bed/Church/staring into space if you want to, but don't impose state sanctioned grieving on the rest of us.

It isn't state sanctioned grieving. The state said matches can go ahead. The private companies of the premier league and EFL have cancelled them following discussions with privately owned footbal clubs

The point stands. I said state sanctioned not state mandated.

Yeah that makes it worse: they’re just being sycophants.

Go ahead and play if you want. No thanks we'll try and "be seen" to do the right thing. Even though the constitution dictates otherwise. Bonkers. Common sense could have prevailed once Truss gave the greenlight and said it's up to you.

We can't blame the Tories for this bout of inane madness.

I keep reading about not going to work etc.

Paying to go to a football match, and being paid to go to work are 2 very different things.

I'm disappointed there's no game at the weekend (from a purely selfish point of view), but it's hardly the end of the world.

A bit of perspective is required.

I sympathise with people who have made travel arrangements, I really do. I hope the travel method you're supposed to be using will take a lenient view when processing refunds. Sadly I don't think they will.

He's asking whether you've contacted the bus/train/Air company about a refund for the journey you no longer wish to make.

I was just reading about Hackney Carnival being cancelled. For you, me and most people we just do other stuff - like we do with the football, cricket or racing. But for the small businesses that have spent hundreds, if not thousands, already in preparation for events to be cancelled at the last minute could well be the final straw on an already struggling camels back. Then there is all the stewards, bar staff, catering staff, etc who are not going to be paid for tomorrow. That money could be vital to their household finances.

At the same time, customers should be putting the money any money are are going save to better use - donating to charity or the local food banks (or putting it towards their fuel bills)

Football being on doesn't stop people who want to mourn from mourning.

From a purely personal perspective, I find the decision bizarre.

I would have preferred to see stadiums full of people going about their lives and marking The Queen’s passing with a moment of silence, God Save The Queen, black armbands etc.

    Just a personal opinion.
