St Leger has been moved to Sunday the 11th Sept, now that IS plain stupid, just massively inconvenience everyone for one day.
I disagree no one is compelling you to grieve. In the whole scheme of things a football match is an insignificant event. What we are and do as a nation, and how we handle the aftermath is what sets us apart from others. Like it or not, we are a ‘Constitutional Monarchy’ not a Republic. I am quite ambivalent to the Monarchy but cancelling a football match is a small price to pay, for showing the appropriate respect for the death of the Queen. You are at liberty to do as you wish in terms of demonstrating your respect or lack thereof. After all you’ll get a future opportunity to see the Portsmouth game. It’s no different to a fixture being rearranged for the weather.
All them that will have paid trainfares and booked hotels based on the Leger being Saturday. Instead they're folding their arms in Donny for the day.
We can’t control the weather, The Test match goes ahead tomorrow, I know they postponed yesterday, but the point is there will be sporting/ leisure activities happening this weekend. Cancelling a football match is not a small price to pay for things such as arranged hospitality etc.
Eh, that’s just plain silly. There are other sporting and leisure activities going ahead tomorrow, no doubt they will all pay their respects. We could’ve done just the same.
The kids league (East Manchester league) put online last night that all 420 fixtures in the league at various age groups would go ahead. This morning at 11:30 they've reversed that guidance as the FA have been in contact and instructed them that they're now not allowed to go ahead.
Same for this. Lots of people who do catering, transport, hospitality etc out of pocket at a time when an event like this would be a much needed boost.
Makes me think the decision makers in Horse Racing and Football were too quick to make their decision having gotten the go ahead it seems totally baffling. Makes it a needless cancellation when other sports are carrying on.
I agree I've respect for the Queen but how is cancelling certain sports going help/ make any difference to her passing ? On the day of her funeral definitely imo but not this weekend.
Again, I sympathise with people losing money because of this. Absolutely! It wasn't the point I was making though. The majority of people on here are annoyed because the match is off, they don't give two hoots about the small businesses who are losing out, the people who aren't getting a refund on train or bus tickets etc. They're peeved off because their Saturday has been ever so slightly inconvenienced. They need to realise that it's not a big deal.
Sorry mate, to millions of republicans in Britain, our lives being disrupted yet again is a big deal.
