Seems that public gatherings like sports matches could have been a unifying and appropriate place to remember the Queen and for the public to gather and recognize the loss. Strange decision to cancel in the first place, but mystifying to cancel some but not all.

Each to their own. I'm just pretending it's snowed. And the game is off due to the surrounding area being icy. H&S gone mad I say.

Have to be fair that isn't the message I've got on these threads.

Hospitality businesses are on the brink of going under. They had 18 months of lockdown & now have huge heating / freezing / cooling bills, as well as struggling for staff.

I think you are a sound poster on here, but detached from what the issue is.

Everyone, royalist or republican would have respected a 2 minutes silence, no music at the ground, black arm bands, etc. Instead they are being thrown further into the abyss, for what exactly?

This action has not come the Royal Family, or the Government. If 100k people lose their jobs after it, is that a fitting tribute?

how do you know that for sure? For many match days are much more than just going to the match, for various reasons. The decision to postpone games doesn’t make sense when other sporting/entertainment are happening and many stadiums could’ve been paying their respects.

    That’s a presumption you can’t make in confidence ,
Lots of fans are concerned beyond their own circumstances and genuinely care about other fans and businesses etc and for you to try and say otherwise is out of touch speculation imo .
The cnuts who have called these games off have done itfor their own self importance , there is no good rhyme nor reason to call the game off .
The respect they are saying it’s done for would have been shown hundred fold from fan whether royalist or nay .
This was done for their own prestige , to look important among the so called elite but in fact have made themselves look. Out of touch self important , sycophantic , munchausen syndrome riddled twunts who have cost genuine supporters and hard working businesses great hardship for no reason , there just is no reason for this postponement whatsoever .

This decision was made yesterday in the middle of the media frenzy trying to gauge the mood of the public at the time. They haven't waited for the guidance like Cricket and Rugby have and acted prematurely.

The irony for me is a lot of people passing there remorse yesterday and paying their respects have been needlessly punished.

More so when the government and the monarchy have said crack on.

It isn't too late for them to u turn as well. That's what annoys me most mate.

I guess it's not as big a majority as I first thought. I suppose it was another case of the 'vocal minority' getting the better of me. I apologise for such a flippant comment, born out of a frustrating week at work, and a series of "people can mourn at football matches" type comments. Having previously worked in the hospitality industry, and witnessing first hand a once popular venue close, due to neglect and complete mismanagement, I feel your pain.

I get both sides of the argument. Personally no big deal, but I get there are people who are gonna be outta pocket for one reason or another. That’s a ballache. As for comments about ‘chance to commemorate together’ etc, I’m guessing that will all still happen anyway, whenever the first games back are. I’m still genuinely puzzled why so many people are shocked by the decision though. Id just assumed it would happen.

I don’t think it’s shock at all, it just doesn’t make sense when other Sporting and entertainment is going ahead today. As for showing respect, perhaps people would like to have done it at the first available opportunity to them rather than waiting, and then told how to do it in a coordinated way. Calling the games off is a very big deal for many people/organisations. This, it’s only a football game mantra is well wide of the mark and disrespectful

Fwiw I’ve not personally ever said “it’s only a football game”, so I’m assuming you’re speaking about others there. I’m very sympathetic to how much it might be impacting others. I personally wouldn’t have called any fixtures off. I’m just not surprised they were.

I’m watching this cricket and I’m flabbergasted - it’s the most disrespectful spectacle! They are even bowling at full speed - how dare they!? Surely only 60mph would be more respectful? Or spin?

Some people (traitors!!) in the crowd are actually applauding and one or two occasionally even smiling!

    NO

    SHAME

Watching Huddersfield v Salford on CH4. Impeccable minutes silence followed by a rousing rendition of the National Anthem. Why couldn't the FA/FL have done the same at matches today?

I think the ladies of the night should be walking about with their tights round their ankles as a mark of respect. Punters should have a semi on. Anything else would be disrespectful.

Yes I was speaking about 1 or 2 comments I’ve read by others on this board and elsewhere that seem to say people are simply moaning about a missing a football match.

I’ve posted on another thread about why I think they’ve called football off when other sports have not been.

Somebody has said football fans aren’t trusted. I agree - and I think they are justified in it.

I think football should have gone ahead this weekend along with pretty much everything else but I do agree. The bad reputation of certain elements of football crowds will have given the football authorities pause for thought.
