So what happens when we do play? Surely they are only delaying the minutes silence until the next game. The times I've been to Oakwell when there's been a minutes silence it has been observed impeccably. Even if there was one knobhead in the crowd they'd soon be told to shut up.
Simple , the cancellation gives the individual on the Governing bodies of these sports the prestige which is otherwise taken away from them by the coverage of ordinary fans who would have imo given impeccable respect and tribute as the British always do on these sorts of occasions . The fact one or two comments are being put out that the British football fan isn’t to be trusted is imo insulting . As I’ve stated on other occasions the silence can be exploited by the very low minority to the detriment of the very high majority and I would have said a minutes applause with a rousing rendition after of Godsave the king would have given those that wanted to make a tribute heard snd those that want to spoil it no platform for the worms on the press to exploit However that’s immaterial now because for all intents and purposes the suits in these bodies have Stolen the headlines and it is them taking the limelight of showing respect rather than the fans .
Yeah they've stolen the fans chance to show genuine respect. That's not saying fans are disingenuous but anything done now will feel after the event and staged. The best chance was today.
It's bulls***. No one rang to say the building site I work on is closed on Friday. Listening to the radio at work I get to hear my weekend plans have been cancelled.
I’m guessing the Efl won’t refund my match ticket as part of the season ticket as they decided to cancel out of respect as chances are I won’t be able to make the rearranged game?
Think that's a valid point. There will be a silence of whatever length ( Philip got 2 mins so who knows how long for the actual monarch?) on our next away and home fixture.
