I think your missing the point we sold anyone we could get any money for and replaced them with freebies. Hardly backing a manager. Yes i get he probably knew we were skint before he came and that was going to happen but on the other hand i think it was sold to him as a long term project, not a we expect to be challenging for promotion this season project.
Any club sells anyone who they can get money for. Otherwise clubs like Leicester and Southampton would be winning the league every season.
So signing 10+ players isn’t backing him then? Irrespective of there fees who pays there wages, signing on fees, bonuses etc? Mr Nobody
We sold 5 key players and replaced them with free transfers we had a financial hole to plug every player we brought in was a free transfer that isnt backing a manager. Southampton and Leicester sell to higher clubs further up the pyramid often getting great money Leicester just sold a 21 year old center back for 80 million. We generally sell for peanuts when clubs know were skint i wouldnt even like to know the fee we actually got for a polish international id rather just hear undisclosed.
Rather have quality over quantity myself look at some of the players the likes of ipswich pompey Wednesday derby have brought in and the wages there paying. Your idea of backing a manager and mine differ a little. Were not in a financial situation were we can back him not like we could when we came down under wilson or when stendel took over and we didnt have to sell.
A couple of things ,Duff knew what he was signing up to we know because he said so.As for plugging the financial deficit the club will have put prices on potential out goings to cover the debts we have /had, and again Duff said every player who we sold the buying clubs had to pay the clubs valuation. So far everything the chairman said in the summer has been done.We can all look back and apportion blame for the past I prefer to look to the future and I see a very bright future ahead of us.
I think they are backing him the best they can whilst trying to fix the finances. The wages of those coming in are met by the club. The issue the directors face is filling a £7m hole and reducing the wage bill by around £6m. Relegation always brings financial pressure but this time it is particularly acute as the club has zero funds and a wage bill a year prior of circa £14m.
Spot on we are backing him to the best of our ability. But if he gets top six this season or even top 10 he has over achieved for me.
The same Sheffield Wednesday that our ‘free transfers’ made look *****? Or the same high flying Ipswich we took a point off?
Their wage bill will be massive compared to ours. Like i said in another post we sold players, we brought in free transfers, we had to lower the wage bill, we couldnt have just got kids from the accademy i like the look of some of the signings but like i said if duff gets us top 10 hes over achieved imo
I dont get this sometimes. Fans bemoan selling for peanuts (even though we literally know nothing), then they hear we've turned down bids already for players, in particular Helik and Styles, then fans were moaning that we can't do transfers because we need to offload first. What would you have them do? Sell for peanuts to offload them and their wages, or turn down bids and get acceptable money?
Maybe so, what happens if we go up, will the same people still say they didn’t back him or they got lucky or simply they executed a good plan?
Have to see if we go up i think that would be a great achievement for duff as a manager and the players. I dont think its a case of backing him they probably have to the best they can but we had to get some money in and cut the wage bill after relegation so we were never going to go out and spend millions or even a few hundred thousand. We dont have a patrick cryne anymore to lend the club money so it is what it is really.
If they do go up it will be a fantastic achievement, it will put the club back on a firm financial footing and Duff will have definitely over achieved. If the club aren’t promoted then next summer will be another tough one for the directors. Unless Styles can be off loaded for a significant fee the owners will need to inject cash or look to further reduce the cost base. Fingers crossed Duff and the team can out perform and get us out of the league.
Depends what you class a backed i suppose, we made 10 free signings i think if we get top 10 he has over achieved with the players he has so that is a big clue.
Your always a glass half full kind of poster brian i like that. Sometimes you have to look back to move forward though.
They signed players the manager wanted, fortunately for us they were free, if they get us promoted then the board need praising for addressing the financial crisis plus putting together a good team coupled with securing the services of what I think is one of the best managers outside the top 2 leagues!! The horrors of Mr Conway need putting to bed and forgetting by some, you can’t live in the past
