Currently with Sky Fibre ( to cabinet, copper to house,) looking at Talk Talk fibre 150 to house via City Fibre complete with wi fi 6 router. Looked at reviews on line, plenty of negatives about them but when I looked at sky reviews they're the same but personally I've had no problems with them. So lt's the old adage that people only write reviews when they've had a problem but not when all's well. So, has anybody out there got Talk Talk and what are they like in general and what is their fibre like lf you've got it. Cheers.
That was another one on city fibre list of providers, never heard of them so no chance of usng them. The only other one I'd heard of was Vodafone but the wi fi 6 with T/T got me.
I used to have talktalk - when they took over Tiscali but that was just normal broadband - they really werent very good and in the end I ditched them and for home went back to BT. Unreliable and really bad customer support - even wanted to charge me to divert calls to my mobile when the phone line was down. Mother in Law also had it and when she died we tried to transfer the line to my Mrs whilst we worked out what to do with the house - that seemed to be beyond them so we cancelled it in the end This is all a few years ago so they may have improved but personally I wouldnt use them again Never used them with Fibre to house. That said you really want feedback from those who have used them recently
Just for info, I have Sky full fibre to the house and had no issues whatsover. No installation costs, all sorted for free and seem to be getting speeds I was promised. Dunno if that's useful or not, but as you say, reviews only seem to get posted when it's a negative experience
didn't know sky did fibre to house, how do they do it, do they have to dig up or does it come via telephone posts like city fibre.
We were with TalkTalk and they were awful to deal with when leaving, they threatened legal action because I cancelled my direct debit because we were paying for a streaming service which we never actually used (all the streaming services we used were actually free anyway). You might have a better experience than we did but I wouldn't count on it.
DO NOT go near TalkTalk. They were one of my clients a few years ago. A complete bunch of shysters who were proud they'd set up their 'customer care' operation to ensure that no one one signed up could escape easily. They do not care about their customers other than as profit opportunities. I had to deal with some repulsive human beings. People write reviews when they've had a problem yes, but I'll bet the majority of their customers are no longer sane enough to write anything at all
I got to T/T throught the city fibre list of providers, the only other one was I knew was Vodafone, so I would be interested in knowing how they are.
Edit:- Just gone through city fibre list and selected Vodafone...... Their website is down, technical problems. Ha Ha, good start. What a mine field.
Just looked up some Vodaphone reviews. Consistently bad. Zen Broadband (never heard of them) is recommended by 'Which' as the best broadband provider
Have FTP (Fibre to Property) with BT. A fee installation challenges though, but OpenReach were really good at making wires disappear. Now I have that connection, I will be looking to reduce the cost (at renewal) - but generally great speeds and service. Hope this helps!
Got max fibre whatever with Vodafone, new Openreach fibre fitted. 900 Mbs. Keeps going down late at night, can be extremely fast. Digital Voice (landline replacement) hardly ever works. WiFi is ok but Virgin/BT better coverage. Got free Apple TV and box which is brill. Not as good as BT or Virgin but better offer at the time. Maybe wouldn't pick Vodafone if I could choose again.
They are all particularly evil, money-grabbing, incompetent parasites, so basically look for something cheap and hope it works. You will only really have problems when it doesn't.
Don’t use TalkTalk, they are particularly bad. We’re with Virgin and other then being expensive they’ve always been really reliable and sort any rare problems our quickly or pay compensation.
No digging up. The fibre was already to the box at the beginning of the estate. Open reach then installed the fibre from the cabinet to the whole street using the man holes in the road. Just dragged the cables through there. I assumed sky would have to dig from the road to the house, but they went underground using the ducts that the phone lines run in. So, no digging, no wires. Just have an Openreach box on outside wall and then one little one inside that the router connects to. Guess it depends how your street is wired up as to how they do it
Been with talktalk for 5yrs not had a problem only when the prats who were fitting virgin fibre cables cut the phone line and didn't think to tell anyone but got through to talktalk and they were going to send a engineer out. The only other complaint is when my contract is up I have to go through the dance of moving then they ring and beat what I have been offered why we can't just give me a good deal in the first place.
