I've never understood the eagerness to slate ex employees who move on to bigger and better opportunities.
There is the contradiction in your post. The teams that do well in their first season usually keep most of the promoted squad, with a few premiership quality additions. That number of signings is madness. Either Dane / Cooper are responsible surely, plus the board for sanctioning it. Madness, they call it madness... I too had thought Forest may do OK, but I think they will sink like a stone, unless maybe they bring in someone like Dyche, who can pull a team together out of the rubble.
I think with everything else being equal we would be better with Dane than Khaled. If we had the same two managers as we had last year I couldn’t say we’d be still in the Championship, but I’m sure we wouldn’t have signed Oularé with Dane overseeing transfers. Not that that was Khaled’s fault either as Mr Conway was acting CEO at the time.
I listened to talk sport on Monday and Graham Souness seemed to have good info that half of the new signings came from the chairman...they then played a clip of him (verbal obviously) and lets just say he's a very confident person .....didn't like the sound of him tbh. The programme also highlighted how many players were loans and had contracts up at the back of the season. Thought the coach did a fantastic job....doubt the chairman will think twice getting shut.
You think Dane sanctioned many of those signings? The owner has a lot more influence than you think in terms of meddling in squad selection and transfers. Dane is going to be made a scapegoat for the mess they find themselves in. Shame as he's a decent fella.
Why the dig at Steve Cooper who has done an excellent job there up until the last few weeks. Decent record at championship level and just not quite happened for him at PL level yet. Brought in 23 new players, he's probably had very little say in any of those signings and expected to get the performing straight away.
I agree to a point. He's done ok at championship level but I don't see him making it in the league above. Their ridiculous recruitment this summer will be their undoing. Remember when we went up and made some unwise signings, although some did come good of course. Just too late for us though. I know that I was was making a sarky comment about his face, but I'm not the first to do that. He just LOOKS so uninspiring.
Err there is no hype whatsoever with Mr Khaledo lol. Dane did a good job for us and was missed when he left here. Whether he and Cooper were a bit lucky though, and a bit of a flash in the pan when taking Notts Florist up, thats open to question. I hoped they could make a go of it by being ambitious and spending (or wasting) all that money. But they are now bottom, and you know the rest.. its got a familiar look about it.
O'Brien looked out of his depth last night. Johnson look as much of a threat in the premier league. Compared with Harvey barnes 1st few appearances in premier league after the championship they're light years apart.
For me Khaled will be judged after his first full season, Alan Sugar wouldn’t have turned things around last year with that knob sack, Conway setting the tone!! From what I’ve seen this last 2/3 months Khaled is doing a pretty decent job given our precarious financial situation
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those people looking to hang draw and quarter Khaled, I just think Dane’s leadership was undervalued because Val got all the plaudits. In my opinion, it’s no coincidence that the two teams Dane has been involved with in English football have both reached the play offs against all the odds.
Looks like it’s the whole team from football director, Dane down even to the chief scout who are under threat.
I think the problem is that Forest didn't get promoted on skill and quality - they got promoted on momentum. Kinda like Derby in 2007 under Bill Davies. Their players weren't good enough for the Premier League. Many weren't really even top for the Championship. And those that were left. To me, they had two choices - stink out the joint with the leftover guys and minimal investment (like Derby) or restock and hope. From what I've heard, Marinakis's son Militadis has a hand in many of the transfers and that these buck the preferences of the manager and scouts. I know last year, mid season, they signed one of our Canadian guys and Cooper seemed mystified at why.
For me the gap between the championship and premier league is getting bigger Fulham and Bournemouth were ok last season nothing more as they should be with the cost ot there squads. There was always going to be a poor side that went up and I think Forest knew this and had no choice especially when alot of there quality were loans that went back it's too big a job to do in one window however in charge.
Yeah its just impossible to compete these days and I dread to think how bad we'd have been in the Prem under Val, if we had won those Play offs. Maybe it was a good thing not going up after all, and you know who would have been at the front of the queue don't you, and taking all the credit!.
It’s funny what goes round comes round innit! Dane Murphy buggers off to a ‘bigger’ club and makes a total Horlivka of it. West Brom, rip our manager and cherry pick our players because they are a ‘bigger’ club but now bottom 3 in the Championship!
