He should be out obstructing the field. But the fielding team have to appeal, which apparently they didn’t.
But we won !! Agree about Stokes.. his timing just wasn’t there. Malan was dropped down the order as they wanted a power hitter to maintain the rate of scoring. We scored over 200 away from home against a top rated team and beat them so it’s not a failure . Appreciate that they didn’t field their main bowlers however
Yep, we did. And it was a good performance. Could understand the idea behind promoting Stokes, but I think that underestimates Malan’s abilities. Think he would’ve been a decent foil for Hales to keep the momentum. Maybe would’ve been a good option if the first wicket had fallen a few overs later
A good win, both teams scored highly. Didn't watch as I had other things to do but a promising start!
buttler came out later and said he didn't appeal because it was too early in the tour and didn't want to rile up anyone, but it was definitely deliberate from wade, these are only warm up games so guess it makes sense not to provoke too much, umpires could maybe have done better for me
Buttler and Wood are too soft perhaps. Makes you wonder what would have happened if Stokes was captain or if we were the offenders and Aus had the chance to appeal
Foakes and Livingstone have been given central contracts in respective formats BUT Lees hasn’t ! That suggests that we’re not entirely happy with both our openers which is not a good state to be in when a home Ashes tour is next June/July
Of the new contracts two are Yorkshire. Trying to get promoted will be a pain. Also in April and early May next year Pakistan have five ODIs and five T20s home to New Zealand, so we could be without our brand new captain for the start of the season.
At least Malan has not had his full contract renewed so methinks his days are numbered in limited over games for England. Yorkshires gain maybe. Also Bess is released but I think he’ll be considered for England in 2 or 3 years although not many Div 2 players are considered
Last I heard, Strauss was leading a full review of county cricket including number of games, point scoring and promotion etc. It generally takes a long time to put proposals to all clubs so I remember reading that it may be a bit late for 2023. They were discussing/ considering having 3 divisions so less games would be played.
The first win had a century opening partnership and a score over 200, but this win was better. Aussies put out a much stronger side and even with Chris Jordan trying to lose us the game we got over the line and successfully defended another total when T20 is seen as a game that favours chases.
