3pm Blackout

    Watching Football on TV could get more expensive if a bidding war for EFL rights happens. I hope the blackout continues as it protects attendances. Clubs would have to be given much more money to compensate them, but the cost of that would be passed on to viewers.

    Does it though? I can watch any 3pm kick-off now, but I'd still rather go to a game than watch it on my TV/Laptop etc.

    If watching legally is more easily accessible it will make crowds dwindle and see a rise in armchair supporters.

    don’t agree, think any fan would rather be in the ground.
    What it would do is make the game accessible to disabled fans and those who have trouble travelling etc. The club would also benefit from that revenue if it’s through I follow.

    In France, aren’t any games at any times available via pay per view ?

    The attendances are still high I believe.
    Some one may shoot me down but I seem to recall that that was the case a few years ago

    I don’t think club would benefit at all through iFollow, it’s people who sell dodgy sticks that will benefit !!

    Its not like watching illegally is particularly challenging these days I would say anyone who wants to with just a little bit of effort can.
    I don't think it would impact attendances personally. Though priced right it could make clubs some money.

    Football in general should be cheaper, that's the only way to protect attendances.

    Players need to be payed less but that's a whole different story.

    I think the opposite to be honest. Dodgy sticks already allow you to watch 3pm games if there is a legit way to do it more may well pay to watch legally.

    I think it's already had an impact. The amount of people that watch us illegally every week but only step inside Oakwell once a flood is quite scary. We knew this would be the case when Ifollow came onboard.

    Imagine the new attendance announcement

    The attendance today is 10,653 with 375 visiting supporters and 25,461 armchair fans

    I think anyone who wants to go will do irrespective, but making it legal would attract more viewers switching from illegal streams. (or it should)

    And what is your evidence for this
    I know very few people who would rather watch on a dodgy stream than actually go to the ground- those that go once a flood wouldnt suddenly start going more often - there is even an argument that they would drift away altogether and the club would get even less money

    If there was a legal way to watch saturday games I think quite a few who cant get to games and dont use dodgy sticks would actually pay a tenner to watch on iFollow or whatever the service is after the new TV round

    What would annoy me is if games get more spread so Amazon BT sport Sky and maybe a couple of others all start getting matches and to watch games you need to subscribe to even more channels which I think is a bigger risk with the next round of TV negotiations

    I don't have evidence that I can present to you, but I do know quite a lot that don't regularly attend Oakwell but are tuned into a dodgy stream every Saturday to watch us.
