Yeah but think about the players in that team compared to this. Stendel was good fun and I definitely liked him. But how we failed to win the league with that team makes me question how good he was.
Aving driven to the game from Brid an back i'd just like to say Great day art, Brilliant point, 6th C,O,Y,R, ps Brid won 3 / 2 away well chuffed
It’s not very often I’ll agree with you MDG, but on this one your correct in my opinion. I’ve not read all the posts on this thread, so some of this may already have been said. Defensively we’re about 80%, although Edwards was steady, and Im no Williams fan, we missed Williams attacking prowess. Cundy first half, he’s good at the basics, but hes ***** when he thinks he can play, just head it and win tackles. Since Thomas got injured we lack a real ball carrier, someone that can beat a man with pace, as much as I like Devante, Norwood and Aitcheson, they don’t have real pace, or a threat that worry’s defenders. As for Josh Martin, he needs to wake up, talents one thing, he clearly lacks desire, commitment, a pair of nads TBH, he won’t deliver until he man’s up. My biggest concern about today, we try plan A week in week out, when that fails we begrudgingly go to plan B, if be dips, we go back to A, footballs got more than two plans!!!!, what happened to c, d and e. I’ve coached football, not at this level I admit, but the idea of simply reverting between two game plans, well it’s not two game plans, it’s the same game plan with different operatives Trying to achieve the same outcome really worries me. Collins is better than Davis, Mads is better than Robert’s, Thomas is better than Potts, we just need the rest to step up
Look at the squad of players Stendel had. On what I’ve seen this season that squad would be eight points clear at the top of the league by now. It is clear what your view and agenda is but can I ask, with what Duff inherited, the budget we have and the squad he’s been left to work with, what exactly would you deem to be acceptable? Did you not expect a young squad with limited additions added to a squad devoid of all confidence to have bad games and show inconsistency? Did you expect to be troubling the top six at this stage of the season? If you got your wish and they sacked duff, paid him off using up any budget at all we had left for the season - who would you have come in and what would you expect him to achieve with limited or even no players coming in, and probably a couple having to be sold to pay Duff’s compensation? Getting rid of Duff now makes about as much sense as KamiKwasi’s economic plans.
Sunderland had players that had played in the premier league and on premier league wages. Not premier league quality players. Big difference. Moot point anyway. I’m comparing our squad then and now. Not against the Sunderland squad then, who were pinching a living. Take the team Stendel had 1-11 against the current first XI and how many of the current squad get in the team? I’d make a case maybe for Mads over Lindsay. That’s about it though. We had two centre forwards who scored 19 goals each all comps and both missed months through injury; Woodrow’s never ending ‘two weeks’ hamstring and Moore’s fractured skull. I’d have Davies over Collins though it’s a close call that. Cavare and Pinillos walk into this side. Pinnock goes without saying. I’d play Adam Jackson over all this lot other than Mads too. Dougall, Mowatt, even McGeehan in midfield, Potts, Cavare, Brown, Hedges wide - any of them. Other than Mads, and maybe I could make an argument for Collins, there’s not anyone in the current squad who’d get near the eleven; there’s about fourteen or fifteen in the 18/19 squad better than anything we have now. If you turned it around and put Stendel in charge of this squad, how do you think we’d be doing?
Duff needs backing in January with two new strikers. We've wasted a squad place on Tedic who we rarely see and Norwood and Aitchison are not good enough to get us promoted. I would have given Jalo some minutes today.
I think that’s more a reflection on their management than ours. Luton finished above us with a worse squad. Like I said I was a Stendel fan. my issue is some of the posts comparing this team to his as a device to talk down the manager.
Not sure why you quoted that...I thought we took a good point from a team who would not have scored all day. They looked poor on that performamce....that's all I'm saying. I like to anaylase both teams...rather than just us.
Luton’s squad has proven to be quality. Lots of them established championship players. Stacey & Justin two outstanding full backs. Proven goal scorers in there who didn’t miss half the season injured either. They might not have had bigger names at the time but there squad proved it was better than ours & Sunderland’s
I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree here. I think our squad was incredible for league 1. And we took 4pts off them. Their squad were managed better.
