What a coincidence that he stripped Mings of the captaincy, but that Mings own goal will probably confirm Gerrard getting sacked in the morning.
Can't stand Gerrard. Spent a **** load of money at Rangers, did the same at Villa and he's having a nightmare. Would be funny as **** if he got sacked. Both Gerrard and Lampard seem to get an easy ride off the press compared to other managers. I wonder why.
If Leicester made the right decisions they could be about 6 up with how often Leeds are giving ball away!
Shocked by the amount of empty seats in the home end throughout the game. Has the novelty of premier league football worn off? Doesn't seem like 2 minutes ago the king power was buzzing.
Am I missing something about Villa? They’re a bottom half side slightly underperforming but with the way people are going on it’s as if they’re massively underachieving. What should they be averaging? Just over a point a game? 50 point mark by the end of the season? They’re only 4 points off where they realistically ought to be in my opinion. Ings & Watkins are bottom half strikers, Buendia’s never done anything above championship level. Bailey seems to have done well in the Bundesliga but it’s a step up to the premier league. For every Haaland there’s several Sancho’s. Gerard’s biggest issue seems to be that the board / Dean Smith spent a lot on very average premier league players who people seem to expect more from because of the over inflated transfer fees they came with. He’s been unlucky that two of his big signings Carlos & Digne have spent a lot of time injured & obviously Countinho’s been underwhelming but it’s a bottom half squad. City, Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle, West Ham, Leicester all got far better teams & squads. And I don’t think Villa even have the quality of Brighton or Palace. They should be doing a little better but if he gets sacked it’s a bad one for me. Having said that I probably think 50%+ of sackings seem harsh. I think managers should be given a proper chance to make it work before owners get shut.
I'm commenting based on Villa fans. They can't understand why players like Mings, McGinn and others keep their place. It's a common theme apparently. Did you watch the match bud? Their defending is abysmal, especially from set pieces, and he doesn't change it when they're by far on the back foot. He can't seem to motivate the players except when the players do it themselves against a top side. Losing or drawing to teams like Forest and Bournemouth (before Bournemouths purple patch) doesn't help his cause. The players they have, they should be doing a lot better imo. They don't turn bad over night. I think a lot stems from fans not wanting Smith sacked and they're playing even worse
Sancho is doing well under Ten Haag for the majority. United fans screaming for him to be in England squad for WC. Dont think he deserves it personally just yet. Saka, Maddison, Foden, Sterling ( even though he's been as win back recently), mount and especially Eze from Palace deserve it more.
But they weren’t that good before Gerrard took over. I just don’t see how they’re massively underachieving. You say they should be doing a lot better. What’s a lot better? I go through their results & there’s only really tonight & the opening day at Bournemouth that I’d class as bad results where I’d expect them to get a point or more from the game. I didn’t watch them tonight. I watched the game on Sunday & the City game & seen highlights. If I was a Villa fan I’d be a lot more annoyed at Purslow & the way the Grealish money was spent before Gerrard came in. He’s just been sacked.
I’d also say Villa fans are the most self-entitled fan base in the country. Not just recently but throughout my lifetime they’ve always been the same. They’re basically what Newcastle fans often get wrongly accused of. I remember loads of them phoning 606 & talksport back in the day wanting O’Neil out for not getting them in the champions league despite the teams they were all up against having far better sides. Then they were always wanting managers out when they had no money left & were competing in the premier league with a championship side. And then when they went down they were the same in the championship too. I’d class them as even more deluded than Wednesdayites. Wait for them all demanding Pochettino gets the job.
Already started mate. I'd wait for a better job to come around, he seems to be linked with every tom, dick & harry. I know historically they're a good club, but seems a bit of a shambles last 10 years. He'd be better of waiting to see if Rodgers gets the sack, can't see him going any other English club, doubt he'd return back to Southampton. Suppose it depends on what kind of money is offered
