I think they got less 50 odd million for raphina which is still a decent fee for a player they bought for less than 20 million and same with philips who came through there accademy.
Yeah I'm in agreement on that with you mate. I think they did extremely well to get 55 million for Raphinha and 45 for Phillips - it's they players they've spent money on which is mental to me.
I think they should carry on the way they are. They were collapsing under Bielsa 5hitting in his bucket. Now they're floundering with Marsch about to kick the bucket. (Metaphorically). It couldn't be going better. Long may it continue.
I think they should have stuck with Brian Clough, but then again, if they had, would Allan Clarke have become Barnsley manager
If they'd stuck with Clough they'd have been a super club. It doesn't bare thinking about. As for Allan Clarke he'd have gone down as a pensioner under Cloughs clear out idea. I'd hazard a guess he might well have still ended up at Barnsley.
The problem is with Leeds now they are back in big time they think they should be competing with the likes of Newcastle, Everton etc & be an established premier league team. In reality they have a upper Championship squad, more so after selling Phillips & Raphiniha. To become established in the premier league they need serious investment. Unfortunately as things stand they will be another Norwich, yo-yo’ing between Championship & the Premier league sacking tonnes of Managers in between.
Personally thought they were struggling because they were without key players last season through injury. Them players got fit & results picked up. Then they’ve sold key players & Bamford’s having injury problems so they’re struggling again. Some of the new signings end up developing into key players or they don't & the manager will end up getting sacked.
It’s still early days and there’s about 10 clubs who could end up in the dog fight. Although yes they do look really poor bits I’ve seen. Isn’t this their 3rd season back in the top flight? After years and years outside the Prem? Just curious where the yo-yo comment came from that’s all.
They will go down eventually, probably this season, then because of parachute payments they’ll make an easy return, then go down again….
I think my life would be pretty miserable if they suddenly got it right. Their fans are right to want them competing at the top end of the Premier League. They are up there with Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd and Man City as a massive club.
It could happen. But not sure how easy they’d find it to bounce back. Parachute payments are a disgrace of course but doesn’t guarantee owt. The 3 relegated teams this season aren’t exactly walking the champ this season. Blunts wobbling too. It is early days mind.
There are large areas of England with no Premier League representation, particularly in the north and east. I don't know if that will change as the years roll on, with just the usual suspects and the odd bankrolled club with their snouts in the trough.
Coincidentally areas that aren't fashionable don't have a Premier League club. The only place that I've never got my head around not having a top tier club is York. Popular place and large catchment area.
York City just can't seem to draw the crowds needed but this season they have had just short of 7,000 against Oldham and Notts County.
