Why couldn't VAR see the last touch before Kane knocks it in was off a Sporting defender? It shouldn't matter if Kane's toe was off side. The touch came from a Sporting player. Absolute joke. Now Spurs have to win in Marseille.

Just seen it. Bizarre decision. For a start I’m really not sure which part of the ball counts but Kane was level with the ball which was played backwards then off the defender to Kane
I’m also told it took several minutes to decide. It’s not a clear and obvious error
I’m guessing they are saying it wasn’t a deliberate act from the defender but just hit him and went to Kane so when it’s played by the spurs player is the important point but I’d love to know the tolerances in their system. I’m very doubtful it’s accurate enough.

I've never understood how they can draw lines seeing if players are offside by a millimetre but be 100% confident they have paused on the exact frame where contact is made with the ball.
I think football needs a equivalent of Umpires call in cricket where if its marginal they just stick with the on field decision.

If he’s offside when the guy who played it across connected he’s offside, the initial direction of the ball is irrelevant.

However no-one will ever convince me he was offside. It’s certainly not clear and obvious and the goal should stand for me.

Redstone is spot on. Make a decision on field and have a few inches leeway where that decision stands. Hate VAR. But I suppose there’s no going back now so for chuffs sake football at least try and use it properly!!

Remember when a player used to be 'level?

    Halcyon days.

I think for offside it either is or isn't. Sounds like they got it completely wrong though? .Umpires call for penalty claims though, definitely.

I just think Uefa don't want 4 English clubs in the last 16 of the Champions League. Bentest decision I've ever seen using technology. Even allowing for Kane being offside it hit a Sporting player who was active because he's trying to play the ball and missed a clear handball in the build up.

If there's one team the authorities don't need to conspire against it's Tottenham, they'll always happily **** things up without interference.

I thought the "clear and obvious error" rule was supposed to be the equivalent of "umpire's call"?

It seems they are not applying it....

I think the rule is if the defending player doesn't deliberately play the ball then it's still offside.

I've seen some decisions in my life watching football. Last night was the only time I've felt cheated. Normally afterwards it's explained and you shrug your shoulders and say "hey ho". Last night even seasoned pro's and ex pro's couldn't see why the goal was disallowed. Never mind going to VAR. I'm still baffled and sickened by it this morning.

Spurs will most likely get dumped out next Tuesday by Marseille because these things like the Henry handball v Ireland usually pan out that way.

Frankly, if Spuds are "dumped" out it's because they're not good enough. That first half performance was woeful.

We wouldn't have won the F.A Cup if off-side rule had come in earlier.

Belgian officials. Yes Spurs have it in their own hands but if the officials on the continent are as bent as they were last night I don't hold out much hope.

The gripe I have is how can a defender trying to the defend the ball in stoppage time not be committing a deliberate act when touching the ball? He was grappling with Kane whilst he touched it.

No he wasn’t, it was a different defender, and the ball was headed down on to his thigh, I don’t think he did deliberately play it, didn’t have time to, just bounced off him in his running stride.

I have to say it was a shocking header from Emerson Royal as it was going nowhere near where it ought to have been - across goal - until the deflection.

But the deflection itself doesn’t play him onside.

I’m not having that he was in front of the ball though. He’s level at worst. It’s a bloody joke of a decision.
