Every stadium I visit that split a stand between home and away always creates a good atmosphere . Would love that at oakwell Apprreciate winning games creates a good atmosphere but oakwell this season ( when we were winning ) is shocking Sure years ago I sat in north stand with away fans in other side . Sure it was Lincoln in cup
If you think that removing 50% of the few remaining fans from the Ponty into the North stand will improve things then you may be sadly mistaken. It will result in even more silence .... the sound of one hand clapping.
They used to do it years ago think they stopped sue to having to open all the concourse and the bottom turnstiles meaning it cost more money on match days
We haven't enough supporters in the rest of the ground. The cost of policing / stewarding a split way end would be too much. I suspect that is why the far side of the West Stand is shut for the same reasons. We need to start playing some decent football. Otherwise we'll be back to the 4k that used to turn up pre Allan Clarke coming.
Didnt we do it for the Blackpool game under stendel last home game of the season where we had to win to more or less guarantee promotion?
Sat in there in early 2000's - Watford at home - game was live on Sky! Coldest game I've ever been to -8 at pitchside
I don't see the point in doing it at present. We've had opportunities in the past and haven't done it. It's been every excuse going from BFC as to why it can't be done. Any other club seems to manage it. Huddersfield have split that away end easily enough but it's to much for BFC to manage!
Spot on. It's concerning how empty the Ponte Road End has looked this season on the highlights I've seen.
I’d rather the North Stand be made the home end (better acoustics) and the Ponty or West Stand given to away fans. Won’t happen because it’s apparently “impossible”. Even though Peterborough manage to swing between a similar scenario from game to game.
Give the Ponty to the away fans?!? Have you taken leave of your senses?? My grandad would be spinning in his grave, had we not had him cremated! I moved out of the Ponty for a year and sat upstairs in the East Stand, with the rest of the London mob, and it just wasn’t right, so me and Molly went back where we belonged. I like going and sitting at the front of the East Stand Upper for Cup games, and agree it is a far better view. But having a far better view of the Reds isn’t always a good thing. The loss of perspective that the view from the Ponty offers goes some way to soften the blow of our haplessness, and it’s good fun hearing the Ponty shouting ‘shoot’ when a defender has the ball, just inside the opposition half, or ‘oooh!’ As the ball sails out for a throw-in, having not come within 30 yards of the goal. I am keen to see a match from the away stand though, and was disappointed not to get a seat in there for the Swansea match after lockdown. I stood on there with my dad several times in the Glavin era, when the away fans were stood in the middle of the Kop, surrounded by police, whilst Reds fans were dotted around them. We went in there a few times cos I was little and it made it easier to see. We were soon back in the Ponty though. Actually, I stood on the Kop with my cousin and uncle for a game against Stockport in 1978. It was my cousin’s birthday, so there were a few mates with us, and my uncle must have either known the guy on the turnstile, or slipped him some money, as we were all instructed to either duck under it or climb over it. We didn’t stay on there long though, cos a few coaches of Wednesday fans turned up, after their game had been postponed late in the day. We hot footed it into the terrace, as did the other Reds fans that were on the Kop. We lost 1-0 and that started my dislike of watching Wednesday fans celebrating goals/wins against us, which sadly has been all too often. I wouldn’t want to sit in the away end anyway, as they get the sun in their eyes. Have you seen how sunbleached the seats are in the away end.
I remember sitting in the North when we beat Blackburn (4-1?) during the Bassett season. I cleaned up with a £1 bet, result & first scorer (Tinkler header) I think Hignett got a couple too.?
Careful there, I was nearly lynched for suggesting that a few seasons back in the days of relatively biggish crowds..
Leeds fans switched ends in the 70s when the new Gelderd Rd stand was built. It was much better and bigger than the old Scratching Shed which was on Elland Rd. Back then you could pay on the gate anywhere in the ground so they moved en bloc to where the away fans were housed. Led to some serious pitched battles till the away fans were moved and proper segregation came in.
We’re not a big enough club to be getting away with that. Our ground is too big for us unfortunately. If it were up to me I would close the West Stand & leave it for media, players & directors, at least the ponty & east stand will fill up more.
Speaking of the away stand, it must be galling to find you're sat behind one of those pillars at the back so having a somewhat impeded view yet the lower sections of the stand are completely empty.
Who wants to sit along side ,loads of away fans jeering at you and giving you the ham shanker gesture all match, plus the cost of stewards to stop fighting occurring ,crazy idea
