Ashley ran Newcastle on a budget which was his perogative to to do so. Those success starved Geordies wanted him to spend and spend and spend and they weren't happy when he didn't do so. He did buy Joelinton for £40 odd million (I think he was their record signing at the time) but balanced that out with a couple of departures. I don't think he was as bad an owner as those Geordies would have everyone believe.
Think for a lot of them it was more about the asset stripping off the pitch than on it. Selling off chunks of prime land etc
If you're looking for connections and conspiracies, Mike Ashley has an increasingly large stake in ASOS. It's a long time since I've been local, but aren't they a very large local employer?
Ashley lives to make money, so apart from acquiring Oakwell and the surroundings to sell off for silly money (which isn't going to happen), why would he even be interested?
I think there is more chance of Ashley Ward buying us. i.e. no chance. This obviously means it will happen.
Just done a bit of research. It's not Mike Ashley. As rumours suggest. But locally born Artist. Ashley Jackson. You heard it here first.
Love threads like this. Starts with a suggestion of a UK takeover, apropos of nothing somebody lobs in the name of Mike Ashley who's been known to do a takeover or two,by page 4 you can guarantee somebody will be complaining that this Ashley takeover's taking too long. You've gotta love the internet
Ashley was a butcher on Corrie wasn't it, I'm sure his uncle Fred would have left a good pork pie recipe, even though it's the wrong side of the pennines!
Ashley's takeover is taking too long. This thread is into it's second page and still no takeover. I wouldn't want Ashley either but to see a return on his investment Ashley would buy us out of League 1 into Premier League. Granted they weren't in League 1 but he did it at Newcastle. He couldn't take Newcastle further because of expectancy and size of the club. However, he could go beyond our expectancy levels or at least restore some.
