What can be done to improve the soulless Oakwell atmosphere?https://c.newsnow.co.uk/A/1152068168?-278:841
What happens to the other stands when you move the vocal supporters to the North Stand? Nowt to do with the ground. It's the 5hite served up on the pitch for the most part since May 2000.
The only way to improve the atmosphere is for the board to show ambition in January & loosen the purse strings. Winning games = better atmosphere.
So get on the players back will win you games? We should be an extra man and make oakwell an intimidating place to came..
Absolutely agree 100%. When watching football at home I insist upon trying to generate a decent atmosphere by setting fire to the curtains and banging a couple of saucepans together. The dog won't stop shaking and the missus left but that's because she couldn't handle the fact that I'm a dedicated ultra. The fact I got sacked for using the company printer to make a 400 sheet one-man tifo also played a part. My suggestion that she got another job to pay for my fortnightly trips to watch a German third division team with der Jungs went down badly but in my defence I couldn't use my own money as I'm saving up to get a tattoo of the club crest on my face. My mate is trying to get me to put it off until after his wedding as it might ruin his photos but he's just a boring lovely person who is no fun at parties. Hopefully I'm still invited because at the engagement do I started chanting "does she take it up the arse" at the bride for the bants. When the father in law to be took exception I lamped him and started shouting "**** ground no fans" as I was escorted away. Boring *****. Tried to think up a chant to go along with the bridal march but the best I could come up with is a slightly homophobic version of Star Trekking. Anyway got to leave it as I'm watching a replay of the 1993 Cup Winners' Cup semi final and the neighbour has started shouting something about being on nights and I've got a bit of back and forth going. You Reds.
Always thowt the away stand was too big. with the exception of 2 or 3 clubs it houses a few hundred fans who because of the acoustics sound like a army of thousands. should have bin 2 thirds of size and the old away side of the West stand improved and used..too late nah tho.
When rebuilding the West Stand, it needs to be a single tier which has safe standing along its whole length. Filling in the gaping corner between the East and North stands would also be massively helpful, even if it's just with a structure to keep the sound in, and with a big screen or something. Why it was designed in the way it was I'll never know.
One thing they could do which would literally cost nothing is to make all seating unreserved, so that fans can sit anywhere within the stand. That way those that want to congregate together and sing can easily do so. I personally noticed a decline in the atmosphere when designated seating was first introduced on the Ponty. Some season ticket holders might object to this but surely a seat is a seat as long as it's in the general area where you want to be?
Splitting the North stand is also a great idea, I sat in there the day it was opened (Port Vale between Christmas and New Year 1999 if memory serves) the view was excellent and the atmosphere was great.
Yeah I'd go along with that with the West Stand. I'd also have the stand running from the Ponte End Corner to the North Stand Corner. That way you're not losing any capacity. I can't see point in renovation or improvement reducing capacity.
It’s way it’s always been imo , in the early seventies when crowds were really low it were the comedic shouts from the crowd that were the highlight . Even Klopp has complained about the atmosphere at times at Liverpool , but if you gonna pass from side to side then pass all the way back to goalie from opponents half when chance after chance to cross it was wasted for fear of having the stat of losing the ball on your cv then it’s inevitable crowd are gonna turn or at least be unenthusiastic imo . It’s the British way imo we don’t do robot ultras like some countries ,even the crowds at Oakwell with Glavin et al couldn’t always generate the crowds . If we are winning or at least playing like we want to win crowds will come to Oakwell no danger , it sometimes for whatever reason they could be quiet at times.
Get a big f**king drum. I love a drum! Maybe a trumpet, or a bugle or a French horn or something. CHHAAARRRRGGGEEE!!!!
It’s a stadium with less than 50% attendance most weeks and a mediocre performing team at best each week. Do they expect it to be like Dortmund like? Play well play exciting attacking football and the atmosphere improves it isn’t rocket science
