    If you're looking historically...

    Clarkson's on Wood Street,
    Barnsley Brewery at Oakwell..owned by Paul & Guy Senior
    Beevor Hall Brewery also owned by the Senior's (whether it was a name change I'm not sure) The Senior's also owned breweries in Shipley and Sheffield.
    .there was one in Darton ( the name of which escapes me),
    Britannia Brewery just off Sheffield Road, owned by Mr Tune.
    Elsecar Brewery in Victorian times,
    the 90's Elsecar Bry in the Heritage centre...
    Thurlstone Brewery in the 1980's.
    Thos Bailey Bry, Duke Street (Victorian)
    The Royal Hotel had a share in one near the Dillington dog track.
    Waltham Street Brewery ( John Pemberton)
    Backby's Brewery, Townend.
    Roodhouse & Hartley, Shambles St.
    Billington Bros, Town-end Bry.
    William S Flanders, 83 Shambles St.
    T M Carter ( possibly Market Hill... later moved to Wakefield)
    Henry Heason, Waltham St.
    One on Eldon St. in the 1840's.

    Jim Taylor had Two Roses Brewery on the Old carpet site in Darton until he packed up due to illness around 2018.

    I brew my own beer from grain etc and have found a recipe for Clarksons bitter from 1956. Really tasty! My mother went for a job at Clarksons brewery but was put off by seeing all the "black clocks" and centipedes in the fermenting vats. Went to the Tin 'Oil instead. Wonder if I should try black clocks and centipedes in my recipe??

    I'm not sure what your Mum thought she saw but they weren't in the fermenting vessels, they would have been sterile.

    That is true...I've had a lifetime's interest in the subject....both as amateur and professional and unfortunately developed the ability to bore people sh**less with it...( as aptly demonstrated above)...my son when he was about 13 absolutely nailed it with some brutal honesty...he interrupted one of my 'educational' diatribes with the words..."God you're sad"...and sadbrewer stuck.
