Evening all, I know there’s been lots of threads surrounding this topic etc but just after a quick piece of advice. Up until October my monthly DD was around £140. I’ve just logged into my bank and upcoming from British Gas is a payment of £313, which I assume is going to be taken on Monday. Other than calling and speaking to them on Monday, is there anything you can do under the DD guarantee? Am I in a position to contact my bank & say for example, don’t let them take it, but take £150 instead?? Can you do that sort of thing?
do a direct debit reverse claim, but I'd also input new readings for an up to date bill. this is assuming you are still on a fixed rate bill and shouldn't really jump yet 3even with the weather being mild, also don't forget the tory buy vote of £66 is also in the your bill so it's closer to £400
I've been arguing with Eon next about mine. They had it up at £250 got them to reduce it but they would only come down to £200. Which I've asked them to review. So with the current Government money off I'm paying around £140. I'm currently £550 in credit, which is just crazy to my mind. To answer the OP I'd say not much you can do about Monday, are you in credit on your account?
They can't increase your payment without informing you in writing. However, it didn't stop Shell Energy doing it to us a couple of months ago. Write to them and tell them you are instructing your bank to refuse the payment.
Yeah, cancelled the DD and will manually make a payment on Monday. I’ll set up a new DD with a newly agreed amount. As I single income household, there’s no way I could afford that much. Especially on a SEN teacher salary.
My mate is with British Gas and has not received his first £66 from the Govt. He has a pre pay key meter and is forever on the phone complaining but gets nowhere except lies from them.
If you go through their website you can set how much you pay. I did it and there was a warning message saying it might not be enough, which I just ignored and it just went ahead and set the amount I put in.
i'd say be careful about cancelling a dd, it could kick you out of your current contract, if you're 100% sure they've taken too much then do a charge back from your bank then argue the toss once you got the money back
You can claim a direct debit back by asking your bank to invoke the direct debit guarantee scheme. I've done it a couple of times. Then set a reasonable direct debit, if you don't pay by DD they charge higher prices. A separate issue, but I started court proceedings against eon last week. They are all a bunch of @rseholes. Don't be bullied by them.
Seems a big increase that.Do you have an online account ?,if you don't I suggest you set one up.It gives you a lot more control of things.I would question the amount its gone up and also you are allowed to decrease the amount by 10% with eon next so I would presume British gas is similar. They wanted to charge me about £170 per month with my usage but I decreased it to £157 and I am still way in credit.
