So good for us, in both stints too. Loads say “never go back” but it worked for us and Adam. A player to genuinely get fans off their seats. I’ve been going regularly now since roughly 2003/2004 and he’s certainly in the “best player” category that I’ve seen in my time. 100% a modern day legend.
Thank you for rescuing us, almost single handedley, starting at the JPT game against York City. I was at Derby as well, and the attached clip shows how much we love you. Enjoy your retirement, Adam. Once a red....!
immense player for the club. I imagine his biggest regret as a professional footballer though, will be that he never mastered the knee slide.
Somebody is definitely peeling onions somewhere. What a player a legend in his own right,as mentioned he single handedly picked the club off its knees and gave the squad a massive lift and belief with his infectious attitude. Thanks for the memories Adam, glad the club are bringing him back as a guest of honour as most fans didn't get chance to say thanks or goodbye
Definitely the most creative player we have had since the Premier League days. His return to the club was brilliant on so many levels, a level of redemption, a massive amount of hard work & a smattering of brilliance.
How we could do with him now, he was a player who could thrill the fans with his dribbling skills which were so sublime.
This for me was why Hammill is a great. When he came back to the club, on wet night in the FL Trophy, he was clearly not match fit. We went a goal down (to York was it?) and Hammill ran his blood to water to get us back in the game and then win it. He could hardly walk by the time he'd finished, but he's done his job. The skill was amazing, but the desire and the work-rate that went with it were what elevated him.
I think what makes him extra special to us is that he only really performed to his best in a reds shirt, it was like he found an extra 50% every time he wore our kit. Every time he got the ball the excitement level went up. He could beat a man, assist a goal or score a beauty at any moment. When you think of all the big games in the 2015/16 season he was the stand out performer. The winning pen at Fleetwood, goals in both play off semi’s & the crucial goals in both Wembley finals.
If we hadn't signed Ryan Kent on loan he could have had a stellar 16/17 season too. Great player. Best I've seen in the flesh for Barnsley. Him, Vaz Te and Dean Gorre excited me. Enjoy retirement. Thanks for the memories.
My son’s hero. The best goal I have ever seen for loads of reasons. Enjoy your retirement Adam, a true Oakwell Hero. What a player.
In my time watching Barnsley which is 50 years two players stand out as players who genuinely excited a crowd every time they got the ball the first was King Ronnie the second was Adam if only we had two players like those two now.
It says on the tweet you've quoted, he'll be a guest at an upcoming game. The door is always open to former players and staff, as you've seen recently with Daniel Stendel and Phil Chambers.
