I’ve got news for you, this was done in 2001 with Kate Winslett & Dougray Scott after I’d read the book myself….. the book was much better as I recall…
Ben McIntyres are slowly getting made and rightly so (SAS Rogue Heroes and Operation Mincemeat spring to mind)…. Agent Zigzag would be a good one…. All about a real WWII triple agent, or was he?! Actually, I’ve just looked and unsurprisingly it’s now in “development”…
I'll see if that's still available and give it a watch. Edit, found it on Amazon Freevee (whatever that is).
Probably would make a small mini series. But I would like to see The Shrewsbury 24 portrayed To show how the working class/union officials were stitched up by the authorities. And jailed and finally convictions quashed decades later. (Ricky Tomlinson autobiography . Provides a good insight as he was one of those jailed). Also 'The ragged trousered philanthropist.' (A union reps must read book and anyone else for that matter. ) Another insight into how workers were treat like vermin. Lots of it still relevant today.
Probably the Red/Green/Blue Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson. Although that would be expensive to do properly. A serial remake of "V for Vendetta" might also be good.
Admittedly not a series but how about a Home Alone movie remake. This time, have a group of burglars attempting to break in to the house whilst the kid is there but give it an 18 classification. So instead of chucking some paint cans down the stairs it could be replaced with a rather large blade, slicing the robbers head off etc. Could either do it down the comedy horror route or just a straight horror gore fest. Glad I've added a bit of sunlight to this thread.
It’s from the Author of the cruel sea It’s like an history lesson of the British Navy from the Spanish Armada battles right through, bought it in Whitby whilst on Holiday in mid seventies whilst still a young man . Couldn’t put it down despite not really being really interested in Naval literature .
I watched the “Cruel Sea” on BBC IPlayer about a fortnight ago for the first time… if you’ve not watched it and have any interest in military history or action films at all, give it a watch, a surprisingly excellent British 50’s film by Ealing Studios.
Just read a description of this and it sounds fascinating. Downloaded a sample to my Kindle immediately!
A couple of trilogies that would make great TV Anne Bishops' the Black Jewels Trilogy ( and subsequent books if you wanted to continue game of thrones style) and Trudi Canavan's The Black Magician Trilogy
When I read 'the ragged trousered philanthropists' I thought it had been updated for modern readers, but I'm sure it was the original.
The Miricle of Castel Di Sangro by Joe McGuinness, fantastic football book and would make a great film or series
Have just 'discovered' Robert Harris and thoroughly enjoyed 'Conclave.' The one author I can't read is Hilary Mantel - her books are so well-researched it's like reading a text book. Also a fan of Val McDermid and Ann Cleeves but can't get into J K Rowlings' Harry Potter books
