Hes insisting its not a done deal yet, but is also saying a lot about what an honour it is to be linked with the Prem, and a club like Southampton etc. From a financial and ambitious point of view, surely he'd be mad to turn it down!.
That’s why we need a strong manager, and why the two we had last season who were complete wet lettuces couldn’t get anything out of players who were talented enough to get to the play offs the year before.
£2.5m compo for them and a long deal for him, no doubt setting him up for life, everyone's a winner. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...-long-term-deal-to-become-southampton-manager
Apart from Southampton fans (according to Southampton fans ) - I thought a lot more would be a little more welcoming considering the job he's done at Luton - however I can understand their reservations given his job at Stoke and just him being a bit of a nob in general.
A L1 manager, who failed at Championship level with a 16% win ratio. If I were a saints fan, sat in the bottom 3 of the PL, I don’t think I would be too happy.
He's done the dirty on Luton again then. Not many managers walk out on a club twice but at least he has earned them some compensation money so I don't suppose they are complaining too much. I hope they drop like a stone now though and that Carlton Morris heads for the New Delhi in January following Jones. That's assuming we have a sell on clause?
Baffled why they'd pick Jones ahead of someone like Sean Dyche, especially given their league position.
has he really 'done the dirty' on them though? things change. new opportunities present themselves all the time. he will have quadrupled his salary and luton are 2.5m better off. I genuinely don't get the criticism. IMO what our very own Paul Heckingbottom did, was way more 'doing the dirty' than this
I was thinking more about doing it to them TWICE. He rebuilds his stock at Luton and then off he goes, again. I understand ambition and all that, not to mention personal gain, but I bet he doesn’t get a third chance.
Preparing for life in The Championship, probably hoping a good season next season will put players in the shop window. When was the last time they made a big sale?
How long would be an acceptable time for him to stay second time round, or should he wait until he is sacked? He rebuilt his stock at Luton, but it's not like Luton didn't benefit from his return either.
Having said thwt, he got Luton out of trouble in the Championship, so he has done experience interrogation fightd.
Yeah, what she said lol, even though I din't understand a bit of it. Have you been at the cooking sherry again ehh lass.
To be fair to him he is a championship manager who got Luton to the play offs last season so his recent record is good & clubs like to bring managers in on the here & now & currently his stock is pretty high , so good luck to him hope he does well .
When Southampton do eventually sack him, I wonder if he'll end up back at Luton again one day. Just out of interest, how many times did John Sheridan keep going back to Oldham, and Martin Allen back to Barnet for example.
If we have, I'd have rather Jones stayed, and continued to get the best out of him & Luton. Better performance = more money for us.
