Not too many surprises - glad Maddison has made it. The bloke has been in flying form.

I'd have found space for Toney - mainly just in case it goes to penalties!

I would have taken Dan Burn too - if Shaw gets injured then we've no other left footed defender.

The obvious talking points are Phillips, Walker and Slabhead - two blokes coming back from big injuries, and one not playing for his club.

I just hope he doesn't play 3-4-3 with Maguire in the middle, because I don't think we need to be so defensive. But then again, in maior tournaments, Southgate seems to know what he's doing.

    If I'm gaffer I play 4-3-3......

    Pickford
    Trippier White Stones Shaw
    Mount Rice Bellingham
    Saka Kane Foden

    Any thoughts?

Kalvin Phillips does nothing unique, shouldn't be taking a space with 54 mins of club football since May under his belt.

Serious lack of pace defensively, which Gomez or Tomori could've provided.

Not happy we're only taking two out and out strikers, one of whom has been very injury prone recently. Sterling and Rashford are worth places but need 3 chances. Anything happens to Kane, we've had it.

Too many mistakes from previous tournament squads repeated. Taking players who aren't fit. Favourites who are in poor form. Lacking in pace and players with ability to change a game.

    Not optimistic.

I want two strikers. Kane and Toney up top in the middle trying to score goals. I dislike the idea of wide forwards, I want my best two goalscorers on the pitch trying to put the ball in the net. Our current style of play is to get some combination of Foden, Grealish, Mount, Saka, Sterling up front and they don't score goals. They didn't in the Nations' League, they didn't in the last Euros when we needed to kill teams off.

I think our 5-3-2/3-4-1-2 would suit England. In midfield I prefer Bellingham and Rice, Ward-Prowse would be the other option, and then there's Foden, Mount or Grealish to do the attacking midfield work like Luke Thomas was. Trippier, Shaw, Alexander-Arnold, even Saka would be good wide players, then Tomori, Stones and White at the back.

Would’ve gone for Toney ahead of Wilson.

I thought at the Euros we had our team, stick with it and then build up to the World Cup, but instead we try out another 124 players.

I can't find too much fault with the squad, other than perhaps Maguire.

Toney being investigated for betting offences probably ended his hopes, and whilst it's not ideal taking Phillips given his injuries this season, I can't see any alternative options that aren't absolutely dogger.

I think we have a squad good enough to have a decent tournament (bit dodgy at back mind)….but as usual I think our overly cautious manager will not take the handbrake off!….real shame that because we have loads of good attacking options!

Not optimistic but I'm not sure if my squad would have been much different to the ones chosen. We are totally lacking in defence and the strikers, Kane aside, don't have many goals in them. John Stones will probably score more than Rashford.

Interested to see what Maddison can do. He's been a flat-track bully when I've seen him, turning it on against bad teams, hopefully he can do it on the big stage.

A few players in there that haven’t played a lot of minutes this season but overall I can’t really complain too much I don’t think.

Doesn’t even feel like a World Cup is starting in 10 days. Hopefully once it gets going I’ll get into it.

If it’s true that James was told they couldn’t risk him, bet he’s impressed with some of those inclusions.

Can't really grumble with it. In truth we've got quite an out of form bunch, and besides the quality that we have in attacking positions and at right-back, our depth is pretty poor. I wouldn't have chosen much different.

I'm pleased that Maddison is in more than anything, although he'll probably not even get a kick.

Remember when Everton started well a few seasons ago, and it turned out to be a flash in the pan of course!.
I really thought Calvert-Lewin was a good England prospect at the time as a no 9, to play up front with Kane.
But then again, I also thought the same about Andy Carroll 10 years ago and look at what happened lol.
