I am nearly 62 years of age and so I try to keep calm and get on with daily life with a minimum of fuss or stress, I have managed to do this for some time even through personal upheavals, the pandemic, political shenanigans both here and abroad, the list is quite long, all this came to a heart pounding end today when a work mate told me about this series on Netflix about the corruption within FIFA, so I've just watched the first installment and to put it bluntly I'm fuckin fuming. The game we all love, the game that has been passed to us by Dad's, Grandad's and other close family or friends is so incredibly corrupt it beggars belief, (of course we've known for sometime that Blatter and Platini were more than suspect) this corruption was instigated by Jao Haverlange years before Blatter sneaked into the picture, Haverlange along with the then owner of Adidas set in motion the most overtly corrupt plan ever to mar international sport. As I said earlier this really has pissed on my chips to such an extent I've decided to boycott all the games of this World Cup in Qatar. Obviously I'm not going escape it totally, purely because of the media powered world we live in, but, I shall not watch any of the games on television or listen to any radio commentary. The game, the Beautiful game, has, I'm afraid been systematically whore'd into ugliness. If you can bear watching Blatter, Warner, Blazer, Haverlange, Platini and a whole host of other Skanks plunder and destroy the game of football, then, watch, listen and prepare for eye popping anger.
I used to read World Soccer back in the late eighties, early nineties. Brian Glanville and other serious writers were reporting on the corruption of Havelange at FIFA and his son in law Teixeira at the Brazilian FA back then. Even now I don't think much has changed under Infantino. FIFA should have been dumped and replaced after Blatter was arrested.
That's some vent. I agree with most of it but think you're cutting off your nose to spite your face. I'd turn off Netflix and bang on some RedTube.
Klopps comments last week on the subject were very good i thought. Journalist: "Are you as enthused, as a football fan, about this World Cup as you would normally be?" Jurgen Klopp: “No.” "When it got announced that Russia and Qatar are the next places for the next two World Cups, I think it was the first time in history that they announced two in one. We all know how it happened and how you can still let it happen. No legal thing afterwards really led to a… , 'Now it's open, now everybody knows'. It was still hidden everywhere and you think, 'Wow, how could they let that happen?'. It's 12 years ago, and now it's coming. That's the situation, and it can just make you angry. How can you not? Again, I watch it from a football point of view and I don't like that players, from time to time, get in a situation where they have to send a message. You are all journalists, you should have sent a message. You didn't write the most critical article about it - and not because it is Qatar and things. No. About the circumstances, which was clear. And don't just put Gareth Southgate constantly in a situation where he has to talk about everything. He is not a politician, he is the manager of England. Let him do that. If you want to write something else about it then do it, but do it by yourself rather than just asking us and all these kind of things - 'Klopp said' and 'Southgate said' - as if it would change anything. We all, you more than I, let it happen 12 years ago."
They're letting Southgate do the interviews because his reign has gone stale and when he slips up in an interview it's easier to get rid. Nowt to do with Qatar. They did it with Hoddle in the nineties. He's outstayed his welcome but it the F.A are scare of sacking a Head Coach/ Manager in spite of qualification as questions might be asked. I wish they were more cut throat.
I think you've missed the point Klopp was making. Nothing to do with Southgate being right or wrong for the England job.
Agree with the OP and everyone else. Do we think everything meets the eye at our club? I don't understand what our owners' game is?
