A distressing article, but still a great piece of journo from the Guardian.. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...qNefYiud2_FBVcUlweBDYgnpXs#Echobox=1668338821
Quite a sly plan that from the tories. Give all the money to places with a new Tory MP so it looks like they are doing good for those communities. People of Barnsley might start thinking they need to Tory mp too, to get summat
I don’t think it’s the Tories ‘playing politics’. Richmond (North Yorks) will never be anything but Blue. Whereas Barnsley - a bit more ‘culture wars’ and ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ nonsense and it’s easier to see a combination of the misguided and the idiotic returning a Conservative MP. Lots of ‘safe Labour seats’ have gone this way.
I believe the current party line from Tory voters who don't want to admit to being duped is "but all politicians are as bad as each other." It's the new "but Corbyn."
Brexit has also deepened Barnsley’s pain. Had the UK remained in the EU, South Yorkshire would have received £900m in assistance. Let's not forget a majority of our townsfolk voted for this idiocy.
I see the anti immigration / set one set of needy people Vs another agenda has been cranked up ten fold this week. I’m beginning to hate this country. It’s so depressing. That people can be conned, and actually vote for the never ending nonsense that this awful lot come out with so they can continue to fill their own boots.
Yes voting to leave the ridiculous ever growing political entwinement that the decent trading bloc idea became. People trying to compare now to when we were in the EU, conveniently forgetting that we have had a worldwide pandemic and now a war in Ukraine, worldwide supply chain issues. But yeah of cause it's all Brexit because the media told them so. Pretty simple, until the world returns to some sort of normality, there can be no comparison end of story.
