I think the way we attacked & went for it probably cost us at the back but it was a fantastic season , rated number 3 of the best seasons of the 61 I have watched
I still haven't watched the "highlights" from the Wembley game in 2000. I wonder if I ever will. 22 years of hurt, never stops you dreaming.....
That one game spoilt a wonderful season for me. I can't bare to think about the games we threw away against West Brom, Bolton, Tranmere, Port Vale, Norwich City. If the season had finished in March it would have done for me. That season depresses me more than any of the relegations. Sounds daft doesn't it.
The biggest throw away was the 3-3 draw at Bramall Lane. We murdered them on the night but surrendered the lead 3 times, the third time in injury time via a poor back pass from John Curtis that Marcus Bent intercepted. A really bitter pill to swallow at the time.
The points gap doesn't tell the true story. That gap could easily have been negotiated with the points thrown away. (Edit I say thrown away because of how bloody good that team and squad was).
We saw it under Val but the football wasn't a patch on the 99/00 side. I hope we don't have to wait another 22 years.
