In that case I'm not sure how he has done anything wrong, unless he's been involved in something a lot more dubious than run-of-the-mill gambling? Edit - just read that nobody involved in football can bet on any football matters, worldwide, including transfer deals and other non-playing events. It also states that Toney never bet "against himself or his team", not that he never gambled on matches he was playing in.
I think they are banned from betting on all football and football related matters such as transfers worldwide.
A friend of mines son committed suicide due to gambling addiction she set up this charity and has ended up challenging the highest levels of government. https://www.gamblingwithlives.org/ Some of the stories I have heard about govt money being intertwined with the gambling companies is horrendous, and also the mechanisms that are used by gambling companies to addict their companies to their product - aimed at children when their brains are developing / most susceptible
That'll be his career over then. Paraphrasing, "I've worked hard to build up my career and respect the sacrifices my parents and sister have made running me up and down the country early in my career to put me where I am today. My faith and hard work has put me where I am today". All sound bytes for a media that were already ready to bring him down as soon as they'd lifted him up.
No if he was only betting on matches and there is no suggestion he was deliberately influencing the outcomes it will be a few months ban based on previous cases, probably 3 -4 months. Id guess the rest of this season is the worst case but probably not that long
Not necessarily, Kieran Trippier was banned for influencing family members to bet on his own transfer. He's since won La Liga, the Champions League, played in a Euro's final, and is now captain of a Premier League team on course to qualify for Europe. It'll certainly derail his career temporarily, but hopefully he can get the help he needs, and can get his career back on track in no time.
Spot on! Gambling addiction has the potential to be as harmful as alcohol, nicotine or substance addiction, and yet the advertising of it in this country at least, is severely under-regulated. Its difficult to escape gambling culture in this country, with TV, radio and podcasting companies all dedicating airtime to it. Because of the Internet, its widely accessible. I've had accounts with at least 15 betting companies, and I've only ever been asked to prove my identity once. On that particular occasion, I closed my account, and about 12 months later, reopened it and used it without having to prove my identity. There certainly needs to be a regulatory change on the way gambling companies can operate, because a tiny message saying 'gamble responsibly', and putting the onus on the customer to say when enough is enough, isn't anywhere near good enough.
I don't think it's right to enforce restrictions on punters either. I wanted a bet with Coral a few weeks ago and was unable to deposit. Instead I used a different account. I just found it a nuisance. If I've any spare money I like a beer and a bet if Laura hasn't got anything planned that I might need the money for. If we're not doing owt I'd like to blow it in the bookies with a chance of winning sumat than sat miserable counting my savings.
I didn't realise footballers were banned from any kind of betting. seems odd and somewhat hypocritical to me, that it's ok for the huge football sponsorship coming from betting companies, but someone having a flutter on a match is banned?
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/20819066/ivan-toney-hit-with-further-betting-charges/ Breaking news of another 30 charges. Not a good look.
Never understood why footballers cannot bet . Obviously on their own performance and the games they are involved in should be not allowed. Banning them from all seems a tad stupid
Risk of insider knowledge. Finds out a players injured, places bets whilst not common knowledge. Clearly it’s more about people having an edge and bookies not liking it. Question should be why do FA feel need to ban it? If it’s cos betting is so bad then why allow sponsorship. Money talks
Wonder if this had been a Harry Kane or Jude Bellingham whether this would have been swept under the carpet
