Anybody been in recent times? Is it worth a visit? I'm ruling out a hotel stay due to the sky high inflated prices at the time, so would be train jobby.
Last year was quite poor compared to other years apparently, but that was mainly down to lack of numbers of stalls etc due to Covid & Snow cancellations in the previous years. Should be back to normal this year and is an excellent atmosphere and quite well organised. If going by train bear in mind there’s a reason the hill you have to walk up is called steep hill!! Thete are shuttle buses that run if you’d prefer to avoid the hill.
I went a few years ago, and whilst there was a lot of stalls, there was a lot of expensive tat. I suppose it's what you want from a market, and can you manage the hill.
Always wanted to go to Lincoln but never got round to it. I've been told it's like York. Never been to Harrogate either.
I think since Brexit a lot of the German travelling stalls have stopped coming , obviously there was covid as well , but it used to be bedlam and had to introduce a one way system round the stalls
Been most years but the yr most stallholders lost their stock due to the weather. They stopped coming back. (Covid exacerbated it.) My favourite is Birmingham. (Been a couple of times) Reputedly the biggest German market outside Germany or Austria. On from Nov 3rd to xmas. Going to make a day/night of it. Next month.
Don't be tempted by Birmingham. It's advertised as the biggest and in terms of square foot it probably is but that's because it's spread out throughout the city centre. We went last year and it was really disappointing.
Haven't been since pre Covid but we used to go every year as friends used to live in Birmingham. I actually enjoyed the fact that it was spread out as it felt less cramped. It may have been because we used to be drinking all the weekend but I always enjoyed it. We still have some decorations we bought off the market.
I'm off to Manchester for the xmas market this Sunday. Staying over in the Ibis, £54 which I didn't think was too bad. Getting the train too and watching the England game there on Monday before we come back.
I have a static caravan about 5 miles out of Lincoln & we love the place, great city . We have had a van there since the late 90"s and the site is residential, therefore open 12 months of the year , we were down last weekend friday until monday but it tends to be quieter at this time of the year although the city is always lively with plenty to do & see ,plus it is a cracking night out there , I would definitely recommend a visit .
We went for a couple of nights earlier this year and really enjoyed it. I was gutted when our game at Lincoln dropped on a midweek night (like I knew it would).
I want a couple of years ago made the mistake of parking my car near the cathedral boy wax’s it knackering walking back up.
Not as nice York but still worth a visit, Steep Hill is EXACTLY that lol but like another poster as said there is a shuttle up. The castle is brilliant and you can walk all way round the walls unlike some castles. Got a prison in it as well and the tour is excellent, the Cathedral is worth going in as well, nice City.
