It might have subsequently been made into other things but from 1980 onwards there was no rooms that were derelict. I can walk you through each and every room if you’d like
I went to a friendly v Man City in 2008. I was in the West Stand towards the North Stand and there was a door under that end of the stand guarded by a bouncer. Also when we were promoted to the Premier League there was a documentary filmed by ITV called " Just like watching Brazil". There was an interview with Skinner Normanton and Johnny Steele in a upholstered bar. They even cut to Michael Parkinson. The upholstery was brown with wooden panelling. Was that the boardroom? The Tykes TV lads did a video with Conway and all the time (no offence @steve 1887 I was looking at the background) thinking is that where " Just like watching Brazil" was filmed. Anyway @Terry Nutkins. You're best qualified and thanks for clearing that up for me. Cheers .
I once sat in Allan Clarkes managers chair when I was mascot years ago. I think a bar was somewhere nearby (maybe the board room), but I was too interested in looking at the team sheet and paperwork on his desk that day I couldn't confirm. I do remember being in the changing rooms before kick off, and John MacDonald was laid in a hot bath reading a porn mag though haha Straight up. (I don't mean his todger like) Oh, and @Terry Nutkins I could dig the video out, I know you're in it as we came down the tunnel for kick off. My "cockney" uncle had a state of the art camcorder back then lol
I think one day I will find the West Stand Vault. There's no surprise in my mind there's mineral rights under Oakwell because there's happens some rare gems level with that eighteen yard line under the West Stand. The mystique remains as I can only go with my own eyes but I do accept the first hand evidence supplied. I wonder if I went down with a metal detector I'd find the trophy cabinet.
I'm not sure I can say what's in it, but there is a room in the section that you reference above, at the North Stand side of the stand. There isn't a bar, but it's a nice room and kept well. I was given a tour after meeting Stendel post-walk
I dunno mate, maybe it's not meant to be. I just don't want to be shot down for saying something if I'm not meant to
Do you mean the chairmen's restaurant ? I had a tour once, and there was a room (not sure if it doubled as the boardroom) where, Mr Cryne and guests, at the time, ate pre march
Yep did a tour off ground years ago , a door near way end went into a room where they said it was getting converted into a social room for players .,Think there was a pool table and a bar in it at that time
@Stephen Dawson Do you mean the one in the directors club? The Barnsley nameplate (my avatar) is above the stairs leading down to it. The entrance is towards the north end on the back of the West Stand. Never been in it but was walking past one day a few years ago and took the picture of the nameplate being as I'm into railways. I've got a wooden replica of the nameplate which I bought back in the 1980s.... Edit, if the bar is in the bowels of the West Stand, the nameplate must be in the anus....
You can go in on a stadium tour. Biglil & I went in after London Tykes sponsored Gary Whatsisname who crashed his Ferrari. Was on bench that day, eyes like pissoyles in snow.. It's the directors room, no bar, lackies bring drinks in.. legendary amongst journos of a certain era.. This is a brilliant read.. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2008/mar/04/sport.comment1 When I presented my original Oakwell watercolour to Pat Cryne last game of season one year, (Rochdale, we did them 5 nowt, second half) Ben Mansford made me stand outside for 10 minutes at halftime, waiting for Patrick to come out, rather than me go in. I had the right hump about that, no mistake. Rev Preedy's old desk stands in the corridor outside.
