As already stated.....So Maguire gets wrestled to the ground ...nothing... A bit of shirt pulling six of one and half a dozen of the other... and VAR awards Iran a penalty. Joke!!
VAR will come under scrutiny for those decisions. But again it comes back to whether the people operating it have been trained sufficiently. They believed the referee had made the right decision with the England call early in the game, but ask him to review his decision with the Iran penalty call at the end? If the referee is called over for the England one, I have no doubt that he changes his original decision. But what's the answer? We can't get the ref to review every cross that comes into the penalty area for a possible foul, can we? The technology is there, its just not being used correctly.
So exactly who are the numpties in the VAR room? Surely they are not fully accredited FIFA Match officials? No one can be so incapable of not seeing the inconsistency of the Harry Maguire no foul and the shirt pull 'penalty' decisions.
Basically it seems if you get a corner then automatically appeal for a var review every time because every time there will be a nudge or shirt pull somewhere.
Referee was asked to review. Stones clearly shirt-pulling. Referee gives penalty. Where's the problem?
BBC showing result as 6-1 ,worst site ever for score updates and we got to pay a licence fee for this
Perhaps it wasn't spotted? If so, it can't be reviewed. Doesn't affect the correct decision being reached in the Iran penalty.
Thats my main gripe, but also I bet if you look at every other corner at both ends you can find a defender with a handfull of his opponents shirt so why just pick that one to review
Youre joking, right. Everyone spotted the rugby tackle on Maguire. No one spotted the Iran one until it was played back in slow motion. Even then it was something and nothing. There were half a dozen people in the VAR room who didnt spot the most blatant rugby tackle?. The Iran one was a sympathy vote in my opinion.
" Wasn't spotted!!! ??? TV replayed it within seconds from at least two, if not three, angles. Thereafter multiple times showed it in slo-mo. Don't see how anyone could not have spotted it, especially the VAR team with all the extra facilities they have. The Italian commentators picked up on the Maguire incident immediately and made quite a few references to it therafter. Contrast that with the 'penalty' shirt pull. Initially they had no idea what all the fuss was about with Iranian and England players gathered round the ref. Only when slo-mo footage was shown did it become apparent. Looked like a) the sort of stuff that happens all the time and the fact that the Iranian player also had hold of Stones's shirt and b) with or without the shirt pull he would never have beaten Pickford to the ball anyway. I know any foul in the area is a penalty but getting that particular penalty meant a freebie goal opportunity when the actual incident was not. In any event it (Maguire WWE event)was spotted and not given as a penalty (inexplicably)
On second thoughts...perhaps Michael Masi has a new job - appointed as head of VAR. Visibly Abstruse Reasoning
