1982. Falcao, Socrates, Zico, Junior, Eder, Cerezo etc, etc. Football that was poetry.

I'm still traumatised by them losing to Italy.

Same here, but 82 is my favourite. So many memorable games/players/incidents. West Germany got to the final after only winning 3 games (not including penalties), Italy won it after not winning any games in the first group, England and Cameroon went home unbeaten. And England had their best ever kit.

1966 was fantastic , not only because of the outcome but growing up in the fifties & sixties I had hardly seen any real football coverage on tv ,so to see the Peles of this world & all the stars of the game that I had only ever read about was absolutely amazing , it is obviously a long time ago now but it is still vivid in my mind whilst no other world cup since then has had nowhere near the same effect , also the boost it brought to the country was something else .

I won't ever change my mind about '86 being my favourite WC Finals, but maybe thats cos I was an impressionable 15 year old at the time as well lol.

I think '90 was vastly over rated, just because it was in Italy. And I even think the American thing in '94 wasn't that bad after all.

I don't think it's been that good. The 0-0s are racking up and most of the favourites have got easy one sided wins. Outside of the defeats for Argentina and Germany there hasn't been much to get exited about. There has only been one goal today. We've yet to see two sides of similar ability play like a close 3+ goals game.

No VAR offside everyone could understand officials who gave goal decisions without goal line technology 16 teams no "round of 16" My dad saying "don't know how they think this lot will win the WC after we drew the first match! great memories Nice one Dad miss ya :)

Better than the best transfer window ever.

A long way to go. Some upsets, but some really dull games. I would say that is standard for the group stages.

I just hope a couple of big guns get knocked out early. Only chance we have of winning it.

What I have noticed is that there are lots of nationalities at most games. Watching on telly I've noticed England flags around the ground at most matches.

I suppose there's nowt else to do other than go to games, and there appears to be plenty of ticket availability. If you can afford it, the proximity of the stadiums means you can take in at least 2 games a day,

I’ve only seen a couple of games, but not overly impressed. England looked good…. Against Iran? And Saudi had a decent game plan… var is used inconsistently and when it is, I think ant and dec are the controllers. Best ever World Cup? Possibly but not convinced yet.

Got to say (and I would have said it prior to England’s game tonight had the BBS been working), it’s easily the worst I can remember. I just can’t get interested.

I’ve listened to commentary today about “wonderful atmosphere” at the Qatar game. All I can hear is a vague hum.

Then you have the insistence on fawning over players like Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar.

How many great games? I’ve not seen all of them but I’d say 0.

Even the fans seem to be orchestrated. (With the exception of the Wales fans in their first game).

It’s just leaving me cold. It’s crap.

From a selfish (Spurs) point of view I think Kane is resembling Blakey off on the buses more than Jimmy Greaves each day. Time to play a striker that will stay up front and a playmaker. His legs have gone and he drops too deep getting in the way of better players on the ball.
