    Just seen pictures of a giant man meeting the Queen in 2018 and Princess Anne in 2019. For the disease to take him from those pictures 3 years ago to his passing now, just brutal. Worst nightmare.

    A great man. Can remember watching him play for Scotland and then seeing him in the flesh for the Border Reivers. My Dad recalls a story of watching the Reivers play and then going for a drink after only to find Doddie turning up a little later and inviting himself behind the bar to pour drinks for the team and regulars

    I was lucky enough to meet Doddie very briefly as a kid. I was at Newcastle Rugby Club and saw him and nervously shuffled my way over before ever so politely and timidly asking for an autograph.

    He gave it gladly. “Come with me we’ll see who else is around”. Took me to the players room where I met and got the autographs of Tony Underwood, Garry Armstrong, Vainga Tuigamala! It was 5 minutes if his time but meant everything to me and sums him up perfectly from what you hear from others.
