Really? She’s won one tournament and come nowhere near anything since ! They’ll be putting them in Cornflake packets next!
Good for her, if she never wins another Tennis tournament in her life that achievement was sensational and millions would dream of doing it. The honours system is a bit of a joke anyway.
She was the first British woman to win a Grand Slam in nearly 50 years. Didn't Andy Murray get a knighthood for doing something similar.
Andy Murray got knighted for having a successful career of reaching world number 1 and winning multiple grand slams and Olympic gold twice. He's also won the Davis Cup. Raducanu got an MBE for one good tournament. Since then she's had as many injuries as victories. They hand out awards far too easily these days. This next year is huge for her. She's got the fitness coach who turned Andy Murray from a skinny injury prone kid to a world class machine. If this guy can't help her nobody can.
The MBE is the lowest ranked of these medals for sports people so I don't think it's undeserved when she's done something no other British woman has done in nigh.on 50 years. Its not a long service award its an achievement award.
Exactly the list of professional Tennis players who have never won a Grand Slam is a very long one. As I said she would never win another tournament again and it does not take away from a spectacular achievement.
I don't get the issue. It's only an MBE, the awards were announced about 3 months after she won so "she's done nowt since" isn't relevant, and looking down the list a young swimmer got one for winning gold in a single relay race, which seems comparable.
