I can't see Pakistan being anywhere near as good with the bat as we were today. If they are then their cricket federation has some serious questions to answer about how to prepare a test wicket. I watched the day's play in several segments, recording from the start and hitting the FF button frequently. It got so that I was only interested in watching the boundaries, and there were PLENTY of them
The issue is with the bowling attack that we have picked. 2 front line seamers + stokes, and one front line spinner + Livingstone, Jacks and Root. Once Foakes was out and Pope keeping wicket, it should've been Jamie Overton or Rehan Ahmed coming in.
I’m guessing we didn’t have a lot of choice with selection today. Aren’t some players still suffering ?
And all out for 657. Get them bowling boots on now going to take some effort to get through them twice on here but there’s plenty of time.
Cricket is bonkers nowadays. I see that there is a televised 10 over match from Abu Dhabi later today…. ten overs a side ????? As Fred Trueman would have said “ A just dunt know what’s going on “
Pakistan are the home team and will be extremely comfortable in these conditions. I don't think they will be phased that England have put 650 odd on the board. i expect them to be circumspect in comparison to how England played and they will really grind it out. As another poster noted, England only have 2 front line steamers and that is a slight concern.
Bet Jimmy Anderson is mortified. Feet up for 100 overs, now he's got 4 days to graft in the searing heat. If I'm him, I'm telling the lads to take their time next match!
I do think we got a little silly this morning. No reason why we couldn't have gone on to get 750+ and really worn Pakistan down. We took time out of the equation with how well we played yesterday. These Pakistani batsman will look to bat time and make us toil. They could easily bat for 2 days plus and we only have 2 front line seamers. Let's see how we do in the afternoon session...
It’s a difficult one to call is this match as it’s unprecedented. The overcast conditions yesterday after only 75 overs is a concern. Why not start an hour earlier ?
On the plus side Harry Brook for his 27 off over 83 now holds the all time England record for runs off a test over. What a player.
Missed all the fun, really pleased for Harry getting over 150. Don't think well see much of him at Yorkshire in the summer.
He loves playing in Pakistan. Back in February playing for Lahore in the Pakistan Super League he got the second fastest hundred in PSL history and helped win them the tournament with a 40 odd in the final off 20 odd balls.
