I've had a trawl through and come up with any one of these: 1. Mo Eisa (MKD) - good goals per minutes record this season in a side performing poorly and who may want to raise some modest cash; known by Duff from Cheltenham days; fast wide striker who knows where the goal is; worth a tout; 2. Sam Smith (Cambridge United): not always starting at the moment, but still their top scorer; can play wide, or down the middle; good with head and foot as a scorer; known to Duff from loan spell at Cheltenham; less effective this season, but the team is not performing as well, so, like with Eisa, they might want to raise a little cash on a sale; 3. Jevani Brown (Exeter City): top scorer, but in a team which has modest aspirations to battle into the play-offs, so I don't think they will want to sell; very mobile and skilful player, who has scored some memorable goals at every club at which he has played, almost all around the lower divisions; probably not available at a fee which would be possible; 4. Jack Diamond (Lincoln City on loan from Sunderland): battling side forward with good energy levels and pace; frightens defenders by running hard; would need to hi-jack his loan from Sunderland and that looks less likely; 5. Josh Coburn (Bristol Rovers on loan from Middlesbrough): tall, strong central striker, who was injured when Rovers signed him on loan, but who has started scoring goals now that he is fit; again, would need to hi-jack his loan from Boro, which makes it less likely to happen, but one to watch. So my best bets for permanent deals within a modest price we could afford, would be Eisa, or Smith. If we couldn't tempt them with £250k (£300k tops), these deals probably won't happen. I was going to add Cauley Langstaff at Notts County, but I think that we would be unlikely to keep pace with the bidding for him this window. Any thoughts? We will clearly be after at least one additional striker and those might be affordable, depending on our own financial situation and the extent to which the board is willing and able to back what Duff thinks he needs to make a run for the play-offs.
Won't have a chance with any of those you mentioned I doubt mate. Perhaps Diamond if Sunderland want him a little higher up the table
Josh Coburn would have been a ideal signing for us a proper unit who’s also decent with the ball at his feet.
Diamond did really well on loan at Harrogate and is continuing his upward form at Lincoln. He’d be a good addition but expensive. I’d rather have him up front than Aitchison who will do well to get five goals this season. He’s a trier 100% but not enough of a goal threat
Yeah, I know we played the kids but he ripped us apart when Lincoln beat us 3-0 in pizza cup, looked a brilliant player. Been inconsistent in the league but theres definitely raw potential there... who better to unlock it than our Duff?
Can’t believe we weren’t in for Coburn in the summer. Boro player less than 100 miles away and he ends up down in Bristol playing for that nut job Barton. Something amiss with our recruitment set up if you ask me….
Sam nombe is worth a look from Exeter. Decent number of goals and assists this season, good age and works well in a pressing system.
Don’t think many of the players mentioned in this thread are realistic to be honest. Everton want Tom Cannon to play more mens footy. Appreciate it would be a punt due to lack of experience but I’m just trying to think of realistic ones. Proper finisher.
You jest surely.....Fleetwoods top scorer in L1, 1 in 3, 2018-21 and hes scored every other game for County since, much better record than any of the above names, reality over potential, its a no brainer if u want goals over resale value.
You honestly believe our board are going to sign a nearly 33 year old from league 2? I seriously doubt that. I've just said his record is fantastic ??
No course they're not, but if they want promotion they should. Time to be thinking outside that box. And my apologies, as I said I have imbibed. I read your post as " his record at L1, L2 is below great" my mistake
Even now at Stockport he's got just better than a one in 2 at National & league 2 level. I genuinely wouldn't be opposed to signing him for 18 months bud - assuming reasonable finances ofcourse. Doubt he'd join for just rest of season for his personal reasons, probably get a better contract elsewhere. Nothing to apologise for bud
I’d go for Jay Stansfield (currently on loan) at Exeter from Fulham, played very well against us and scored at Oakwell earlier this season.
