Fighting should be allowed like in ice hockey. This would immediately solve 90% of the problems with football tbh. Fewer people will dive if they know they'll get a smack. Offside should apply to only the feet and apply at the moment the ball is played, regardless of if you are interfering with play. Simple black and white.
I picked up on that at the time. I didn't know it was 14 seconds but I estimated at least double the allowed 6. The 6 seconds gets extended by keepers all the time but that was the most blatant breaking of the rule I've seen. It also took us almost a minute to take a throw-in at one point. This team is, without doubt, the best Barnsley team we have had in my lifetime at game management. We go in front and we very rarely look like conceding. (It was a bit different against Peterborough as the game was played at a frenetic pace and they were a very good side). We do that by keeping possession or ensuring the opposition only have possession in certain areas of the field. I don't think we need to supplement that with the time wasting tactics we employ. Admittedly, we're very good at time wasting, but I think we're good enough at the side of game management that is within the rules that we don't have to do it. We just need to get better at turning things around when we go a goal behind. Although the lack of attacking options severely limits the manager if Plan A is not working.
I'd replace penalty shootouts with the system that they used to use in MLS, where the attacker runs at the keeper one on one from 30 yards out. Far more exciting, and much more a test of real footballing skill. Considering the amount of discussion every time a major final is settled on penalties, I'm surprised that this solution has never been suggested.
Clamping down on the obvious stopping the opposition from taking quick throws/free kicks etc. Eg. All the standing in front of a ball when the whistle was blown 10 seconds ago. (Immediate retreat). All the little kicks to push the ball yards away when it's already gone out etc. Picking up a ball and running 20 yards with it, only to throw the ball 20 yards in the air back to where it was. And so on As soon as the ball is "not in play" any deliberate touch of the ball by the opposition brings an immediate yellow card
I'd give half a point for winning a half. Therefore, if you dominate and win both halves, you get 4 points.
Make the game eighty minutes long the clock ticks only when the ball is in play. All the little tricks to waste time are then pointless. I pay to watch football not somebody strolling 20 yards to take a throw in
Yes and there is the issue in football..refs DON'T enforce the rules. nearly all the issues raised on here are within the laws of the game.since kicking the ball away became a booking at free kicks picking it up is now the norm but this is time-wasting and bookable.touching the ref is bookable. shirt pulling is bookable..yet we see down at well all this go off and refs do nowt..a player in a recent match at ours kicked the ball away at a free kick and was warned by the ref..NO its a booking and if the ref doesn't book him the ref should be fined..the rules are there it's the refs who need telling to stick to em.
A yellow card for standing in front of the ball and not retiring 10 yards at a free kick. It takes away the advantage from a team who want
I can picture it now. CF leaning against the oppositions goal having a Woodbine just waiting for that long punt upfield in his general direction.
At each end of the field. No advantage to be gained. You might get a few 6-6 draws at first but it wouldn't take long for the game to adapt.
The game is awash with whinging, moaning, fookwit5, yellow cards an red cards stand, but for dissent and facing off with ref,10 min sin bin
Personally would scrap the stupid offside laws and go back to how it was. You’re either offside or you’re not, and the flag goes up straight away. I would also scrap VAR. Not because of the tech, but how it’s been implemented. Wrecking the game.
