He's making an embarrassment of himself again. Is Messi his boyfriend? He does really other people are playing, right?

'How dare you tackle the messiah? Messi?'

    Jesus wept

I think it was more a touch of mild sarcasm in response to to the Argentinian fans intense booing when Messi didn’t get the free kick he was looking for

Even so, he's not shut up about him. World class pass/assist for the goal, not many players in the world could have picked him out, including Neymar,Mbappe,Ronaldo etc in my opinion, but still... Give it a rest man.

I’ve found the drooling over all the big name players nauseating. Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, Neymar. It’s like they only focus on those players.

You’re right but it’s always been the same. 1998 & 2002 was all Ronaldo, we had the ridiculous over the top coverage of at least one of Owen, Rooney & Beckham every tournament for 20 years. We’ve had the Messi & Ronaldo drama for 15 years +.

I think we'd have won the 2002 World Cup if Keown hadn't gripped Ronaldinho by the shorts and shouted "BBC, BBC, BBC". He did the same in the title run-in away at Bolton with Bruno N' Gotty and Youri Djorkaeff. "I don't want the double w@nk me daft, I don't want the double **** me daft. Svensson, Svensson. Oh no I've cum".

Team work, togetherness, hard work and, okay Keith, endeavour. This sends out the opposite message.

I think all the drooling over Messi is justified. It's cringe worthy at times, but he's a class apart. He didn't get involved in the shithousery for one. Commentators are OTT, but if anyone is deserving of gushing emotion in football, it's definitely Messi.

Take a look back at Maradona's goals against England and Belgium in 86. THAT'S how a real superstar influences a World Cup.

To be fair though. Messi was incredible yesterday.

That pass for the goal when he didn’t look up once to see where his man was  how can anyone do that.

His penalty was class, but my favourite moment was the free kick he just narrowly missed. From that angle I didn’t think he could get that up and down, usually see players fire that into the fans.

It’s a hard one, I bloody hate Argentina and want them to get stuffed. But when Messi is in that form he’s a joy to watch.

Harsh comparison. Messi’s 35. At 27 he won best player at the World Cup taking Argentina to the final & should’ve had the winning assist in the final.

By comparison Maradona was disgraced & exposed as a drugs cheat by 35.

I'm not denying Messi is a great player or that Maradona was a cheat (as is Messi).
I just think Maradona did far more in World Cups than Messi (to date) and that in his club career he produced for an unfashionable club where he wasn't boosted up by as much talent as Messi has been at Barca.
Again, not saying Messi isn't one of the greats and maybe it's my age but, for me, Maradona is the best I've seen.

Bit like Lee Dixon creaming over Jack Grealish. Time we just had stadium sound and Max Headroom giving us team news and stats beforehand.
