Yr getting a bit of stick Ian!! Have you said you once voted Tory!

I think you can safely ignore it. The sense of humour bypass was always going to be in play tonight. Take pity.

Reckon England will win a major tournament before Scotland are independent. Not sure either will happen in my lifetime though!

I’m probably in a tiny minority here Ian but it’s proper made me chuckle this thread.

The In-ger-lund brigade are utterly unbearable (other social media is far worse than the BBS I hasten to add). Arrogant, self-entitled, abusive to other countries. Obviously when England lose they get similar back. But they really don’t like it, and makes them angry.

You have got to be in it to win it. Poor Ian; little snotty nosed urchin, shivering outside in the cold, feet wet through with slush, his nose pressed to the window, watching everyone inside having a good time scoffing mince pies and enjoying a tot in front of a roaring fire ........

It’s sad that the Scottish and Welsh derive so much pleasure from our downfall but I get it to a degree.
We’ve improved, there’s no doubt about that but England are still perennial losers when it comes to the crunch against quality opposition. We build ourselves up time and again before it all comes crashing down.
I’m old enough to know better and always swear at the start of a major tournament that I won’t build up my hopes. Then I see it all opening up, a great opportunity looks there for us and I start to think that maybe this time will be our time. Daft old sod…..it isn’t and I’m beginning to fear it never will be.
Forever the glorious losers with a hard luck story, that’s England.

What's sad, is that some of the English take it so personally.

I seriously don't get that. Unless you're daft enough to read the tabloids absolutely nobody was building us up or getting carried away. Haven't done for a good while.
As soon the draw was made it was pretty clear that we should be favourites to get to the quarters then we'd have an extremely tough challenge against France.

What don’t you get? Not read a tabloid in years and I certainly wasn’t building us up pre tournament , quite the opposite. However, it’s been a WC of shocks and there hasn’t been a side that’s looked unbeatable at all. If we’d beat France last night (yes I made them favourites but it’s a knockout game) and got through we’d have played Morocco in the semis. You don’t see that as an opportunity to potentially reach a WC final? It’s the hope that kills you and although I’m generally a pessimist old sod I occasionally let myself get carried away, same with our beloved Reds.
    Guilty as charged mi lord.

It's ok Ian, you'll always get to celebrate the demise of the England International team but we'll never get the chance to reciprocate, at this level. :p:p:p :D

Yes, it's a shame as Ian always comes across as a great guy.

It is sad for them as a nation that their societal inferiority complex manifests itself in a jealous hatred of the English, to the extent that they have cheered into an office an objectionable harridan, who's sole persona is based around a (failed) attempt at breaking a mutually beneficial union.

No I get that. I think we all hoped and there was a reslistic chance of winning the tournament if we'd got psst France.
What I took your meaning to be was that we built ourselves up to be world beaters and the Scots and Welsh love us to fail because we're arrogant. Believe me, here in Ireland every thread about England's national team is littered with delight at our downfall because we supposedly think we're certs to win every tournament. I'm not sure that's ever been true but it certainly hasn't been for years. In fact the single most blatant example of hubris I've ever seen was Ally's tartan army in 1978.
