Where do we think this puts Southgate? Time for a change?
He's won the most games of any England manager at a world cup, and has dragged England into respectability after being a laughing stock in Brazil and South Africa. But then again, it seems to me this is the best England side I can remember probably better then the Euro 96 team, and the ones under Bobby Robson. I don't think any of the teams I've seen in this world cup have better teams then us, the French aren't the team that won the world cup in France, the Germans are crap, Spain were bang average, Brazil, one dimensional. I think this was our best opportunity in a long time. Most of the team will be around for another world cup at least, and some for 2 or 3, and they respect Southgate, and who would replace him?

He's divisive with the fans, but his results don't lie. He's done a lot more than other England managers of recent past. I'd say praise him for his genuinely good efforts, but maybe it's just time for a fresh approach and see what someone else can do with this group of players. Maybe it'll be better, maybe it'll be worse.

I think it’s time for a change personally. Not a dig at Southgate. Done a decent enough job. Just think a change is as good as a rest.

Best England side since 1970 - I read somewhere that the market value of our squad is the highest in the competition.
And Southgate's tactics are too negative - thanks for what you achieved, but it's time for a new approach.

I think it's daft to even contemplate a change.

We wouldn't have perked up in our play without the other side scoring.

When we perked up, we looked OK.

    Southgate doesn't encourage attacking football.

Whether he's tactically right to adopt this approach, i'm not sure.

It's horrible to watch for much of the time.

Which is why i'd prefer someone else to allow these decent players to blossom.

Done a decent job , was glad he got it over Allerdyce , not sure who’s in line so he keeps it for now imo.

I'd keep him because it's his squad and he obviously has their respect and we're in the mix for the major tournaments. Can't think off the top of my head of an obvious replacement.

I think that's the biggest issue. We don't exactly have a crop of really promising English managers, and I wouldn't want us to go fishing abroad again. Doesn't work for me

It’s a difficult one ,he has overall done a decent job but maybe he will decide he has had enough though?
Thing is we can’t keep doing the same old, he will probably always have a safety first approach and maybe an over dependence on familiar players and not being pro active with his subs.

That’s where I am. If he wants another go at the Euros that’s fine by me. But unless we can persuade someone like Klopp or Pep to have a go I’m not sure who I’d ask. Maybe Eddie Howe if he would take it

Newcastle manager would be an obvious choice for me, Southgate has a great record but I don't think his tactics will ever get us the results that our players are capable of.

Does any international team really play expansive attacking football and still win majority of the time? It’s amazing for all the supposed talent we have coming through it’s always the head coach thats seen as the handbrake and really i just think it’s not getting the major moments in tournaments going your way. Think if Kane scores that pen to equalise we might have gone onto to win, but it’s all subjective now. I guess in short I’m trying to say a change could make a difference but just as equally it’s likely not to either.

Genuinely think we could have won it with a more adventurous manager; he doesn’t take risks and we needed to attack more. I find England boring to watch at times when they shouldn’t be. He’s too cautious and it feels a bit like jobs for the boys. He’s been good but might be time for a change.

It does not matter who is in charge. The team will always choke on big games. The way we played tonight was an abject failure . The players bottled it. The coach bottled it . This was the perfect opportunity to show what we could do .

This is what divides the fans though. Yeah he's won plenty of games (with the best squad in many a year, especially attacking talent), but any time we've played anyone of note, we've lost. Croatia, Belgium, Italy & now France. The only 'big' team we've actually beaten is Germany - and their issues are clear for all to see. Southgate cost us the Euro finals 10000%. Tactically he has so many shortcomings. Substitutes always late, or wrongs ones - i.e today, Sterling & Mount before Grealish, and Grealish comes on with minutes to play, whilst we're losing in a knock out cup. He completely knaffed up the subs in the Euro final. And as many others have mentioned, this was probably our best chance of a major trophy, given how poor Spain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, etc have looked. Even France haven't been great.

But as I said in an earlier post, what he's done for our mentality is fantastic. He's brought the players together to play for the shirt, instead of having mini rivalries with players from different clubs. There's a spirit there, they want to win for each other, defend each other. He didn't deserve to get the job in the first place, but after his first tournament he deserved to stay. Personally I would have got rid after the Euros final initially.

But now I'm in two minds again. He changed formation for this tournament, finally, and we've played some good stuff, great stuff at times, but a lot better than with 3 at the back and dour football that we saw at Nations League. Other than the first half hour against Senegal, and majority of the match against USA, we've looked good, fluid in attack, some good link up play, very slow at times but grow into games eventually and if he does keep his job, I hope we continue to play this way instead of the tripe in the nations league.

Honestly, I just don't know at the minute, it really depends who's willing to take the job. If it's true that Tuchel said he'd take the job, I would get rid off Southgate for him. Grateful to Southgate for bringing that unity back though, something we've lacked for many a year.

He’s done nothing for our mentality . Wrecked today just like the other times he had us in
