Over the last 18 months, he's certainly a player who's come in for more criticism than praise (and rightly so at times), but it seems to have gone unnoticed how much his ball distribution has vastly improved. He was instrumental in both goals yesterday, picking out Williams with a cross field pass for the first, and then finding Kane in an advanced area for the second. He sometimes still looks ponderous, but his cross field pass is quickly becoming a big asset, particularly when we revert to being patient in our build up. Earlier on in the season (and still sometimes now) we didn't always seem to have an outlet in midfield to help us progress up the field. Both Andersen and Kitching were pretty wasteful with their direct long balls. And whilst Connell and Kane are certainly breaking away from their markers more, Kitching in particular has begun to find it much easier to pick out a pass to Williams and Cadden in advanced positions. A note on Cadden too, who also has shaken off that rustiness he was experiencing at the start of the season. He looks much more confident in possession, and his balls into the box are absolutely sublime at times. Again credit has to go to Duff, who seems to be shaping this team up nicely.
I think from Cadden's stats he was always going to be a good player for us. Confidence is massive in the way players perform too. So many players are written off before they have time to settle in and gain confidence or because they're thrown into a team with a losing mentality.
I was delighted when we signed Cadden. He was on my list of targets in the summer. It's a step up in level for him, so it was always going to take him a little while to get going. If we can find someone to get on the end of his crosses more regularly, I think his contribution will be better appreciated.
Last 2 home league games, he’s been my man of the match. I think he’s pretty much always been a competent defender, his passing has just been very hit and miss (or mostly miss). But these last 2 games, he’s been much better. He’s like a deep lying playmaker with the balls through to our wing backs! Particularly the switch of play to Williams.
I think he's maturing as a player composure is a big attribute for a centre half he only has to look at the bloke next to him to see that,he seemed at first a little too eager to please over aggressive I'll show you mind set. His distribution the switch ball is the best of the back three hope he continues to grow and learn as good left sided centre are hard to come by.
He's a first team regular that is part of a defence that out of 72 football league clubs only Leyton Orient have let in less goals, so he must be doing something right.
Aye he had an excellent game yesterday good defending and regularly finding Williams with 40 yard passes. Also is starting to look less like a loose cannon, only a reckless tackle away from a red card. Much improved.
Definitely agree his distribution has gotten better. It’s become a huge attacking asset that Kitching diagonal & Williams’ pace & first touch. I think there’s still a few questions around his positioning when we’re defending but at this level his pace & having an extra centre back means even if gets caught wrong side he doesn’t get punished like he did in the championship. Duff’s working wonders really. My biggest worry & why I thought we’d be upper mid table at best was the lack of goals but because of how well organised we are & how good the defence & keeper are we only need to score one to win most games. I also expected Anderson & possibly Collins to leave & having two championship quality players in them two is huge for us. This league looks a doddle for Anderson.
Whitey reckons he's going to be very good and, let's be honest, he's a lot closer to what's going on than the rest of us.
Getting better every game. Love the rawness and the rampaging runs, problem is, at the end of them he usually picks out an opponent and leaves us open to counter attacks. In saying that i still love seeing him step out on his runs. Another one given unfair stick earlier in the season.
I’m a boring **** and see every detail, every statistic, all the data. Plus the stuff in front of me ‘live’, with my own fading eyes. Kitching is massively underrated, just as the gaffer said yesterday. He’s the architect of most of our attacks. There’s method behind it that folk probably don’t realise. Wand of a left foot. I see criticism of him on here regards his passing but he’s asked to play forward, to be brave, break lines etc. He’s not perfect. He’s got lots to work on. But at 23 he’s plenty of time to develop and has a huge improvement arc. We need him and Mads’ contracts extending. Ridiculous that we have such talent at this level. Can only assume other clubs see that we went down and believe the defence were at fault.
I thought he was man of the match yesterday & I must confess that I wasn"t his biggest fan but he has gradually won me over & there is no doubt in my mind that Duffs coaching is having a big impact on the lad , well done to him & keep it going .
