I know this has probably been done loads but was just putting mine together in the middle of the night and this would be mine. Choose your XI, no subs etc!

Mine represents who I've grown up with, I'm too young for the likes of Pele and Beckenbauer.

    P. Schmeichel

    Maldini
    Cannavaro
    Chiellini
    Lahm

    Zidane
    Pirlo
    Maradona

decent line up. I'd probably go Cafu over lahm, baresi over chiellini, and Zlatan or Ronaldinho over Henry. mbappe will find himself in there in 10-15 years, I reckon

I switched Baresi at the last minute! Brought in Cannavaro instead :)

next question - who would the skipper be??? I'm going Diego, purely on GOAT status. also just switched Buffon for Schmeichel. World Cup winner innit.

I think its hard to leave out Hungarian forward Puskas - an absolute genius who was truly talented beyond compare. He scored 84 goals in 85 games for Hungary and 514 in 529 matches at club level for Budapest and Real Madrid - an unmatched record making him the first global football superstar. He gets in for me.

I think he's only including players from his era, which is fair dos

Tough one, Pirlo maybe, but any of the defenders would be decent enough too.

Controversial opinion, but I reckon Peter Schmeichel was overrated.

I'd even argue Kasper is a better keeper.

    Tin hat on!

You know what, whilst I disagree and think he was best in the world at one point, I'd have probably gone for Buffon in hindsight!

Just gone with players from my time watching footy. His peak was before I was even born.

I'm probably being a little unfair on Schmeichel. He was a phenomenal shot stopper. His decision making at times was very questionable though. That being said, I don't have much recollection of him prior to Euro 96. I recall being at Oakwell much earlier than 96, but the first televised tournament I watched was Euro 96. I recall vividly the England vs Scotland game, and the following day I went to my Auntie and Uncle's house in Sheffield. On the way home, we passed Hillsborough just as the Danes and Croats were going in, and I watched the game at home on the TV. My only memory of it was Davor Suker's chip on Schmeichel, who was miles off his line despite a covering defender.

My opinion of him has probably been skewed because of that (and his slice against us of course).

What he achieved in the game has only been rivalled by a few, but my favourite keepers growing up were Angelo Peruzzi, Gialuigi Buffon and Oliver Kahn.
