What, surprised that I have written what I did about him? I'm not defending him, or sticking up for him in any way. I just happen to like his television performances and the camaraderie he has with Hammond and May was a joy to watch for me. I'm not a fan of the petrol-head, high-octane displays that often appeared on the show - bright yellow sports cars doing 200 mph for example - but their escapades around the world were often hilarious and there were very many laugh out loud scenes, especially in the later adventures on Prime. His year on the farm made for good television as well - ludicrous, unbelievable at times, but very funny, as was the book that I have just finished reading. "Real" farmers will turn their noses up obviously, but I don't think he ever set out to be one of those. He can afford to lose money while real farmers cannot. He's a one-off and I hope he doesn't get hounded out of everything, like he did with the BBC.
Of course you are entitled to your view of him. My view is almost diametrically opposite to yours. In fact, I’ve always suspected that the stupidly fast and dangerous driving we witness every day is linked to the glorification of speed by idiots such as Clarkson and his ‘hilarious’ programme. But that’s just my opinion. No more accurate or irrelevant than yours.
Of course he knew what he was doing - as for rants from left nothing compared to rants about Markle to be fair.
Nothing Jezza says or writes is meant to be taken seriously. Some of the stuff he does is entertaining. And largely involves taking the piss out of himself. That's all we need to know.
Remember, it’s the working class that keep this rag alive ! Even the working class are now cannon fodder on here
Unfortunately for some we cant just write whatever we want and not expect consequences for our actions. What he did write and was okayed by the newspaper editor was too far no matter who the target was.
I’d argue more so and in so called higher moral opinions (arguably) Not defending Clarkson as I normally dismiss his ranting but he does have a platform and with that comes responsibility which he and we cannot and should not dismiss . People rightly have a right to criticise what he preaches from this platform as an aside of which I presume he’s handsomely paid , and also should be made accountable by whichever parts of the community feels offended or marginalised . Prince Philip had come under criticism imo more so than Clarkson (not sure Clarkson has been front page news for weeks for his outbursts) but having said all that neither of them have faced the moral justices their brain farts deserve .
He’s the moral turd that won’t flush for me. I hate pretty much every political opinion he has. I hate the Sun. I hate his temper. I hate many of the things he has said, none more so than this. But I still find myself howling to his programmes. The complexities and innate hypocrisy of humankind I suppose.
Whilst we are a free country we cannot say whatever we like. There are laws on slander and libel, also hate crimes and inciting hatred. We have those laws for good reason. Remember Abu Hamza was prosecuted for inciting hatred.
It's a pity he's such a nob, as some Top Gear segments are genuinely brilliant. Their races across cities on various modes of transport are really superb viewing. Especially if you mute the bits when Clarkson opens his mouth.
