Hemsy certainly wasn't.[/QUOTE] Nobody was creaming though lets be honest, it's hyperbole. Plenty were happy enough because he's a solid, experienced league one player with plenty of goals in his career. I think majority expected he'd be a squad player though, which obviously he seems to be a first teamer due to lack of options. Might change in Jan though hopefully, but personally I'm glad he's here. Young Marsh & Jalo both said they've learnt off him. A year deal was a no brainer imo
I don’t think anyone was creaming tbf. From memory it was just loadsa people trying to explain to Hemmsy that he was a proven goalscorer in League Football. And that still stands.
He started about 12 games in 5 seasons the rest were in and out of the team never getting a real run in the team.
Norwood never played at a higher level than league one. How do you get Burton will have more scoring opportunities than our forwards there a awful team harry kane could have been upfront for them last Saturday and wouldn't have scored because there was zero service. They will be lucky not to get relegated the fact that he is 3rd or 4th top scorer in the league with such limited service is a achievement in its self.
That stat tells you eveything & confirms that his time at Oakwell was not very productive , a lot of different coaches worked with him on the training ground every day yet none saw him as good enough to give a run in the team ,plus his loan spells away both resulted in him getting sent back after poor form , good luck to the lad for the future, the change has done him good & thankfully we freed up a space for such as Jalo to aid his development .
All opinions but for me your never going to get a real go starting 12 games in 5 seasons in and out of the squad. Cauley started every game he could last season offering very little apart from penalties and didn't Victor score more from open play than him having played far less minutes. Vic was a big scapegoat with Barnsley fans and other players who offered very little could do no wrong in many fans eyes so I'm glad he finding scoring form at a lower level. I don't think he is championship quality but he's proving himself in league one at a poor team where scoring opportunities will be limited.
If you look at stats I find it strange that you mention stats for Vic over 5 years yet compare them to Woodrow on last season only, as a fair comparison why not look up Woodrows Barnsley career & Vics Barnsley career & then you can make a fair comparison instead of cherry picking last season when lets face it all stats for all of our players were poor, but anyway both players have now moved on & I wish them both well , I have said all I am going to say about Vic apart from wishing him well for the future & as for Cauley I wish he was still here & also wish him well for the future .
30 starts he had, Victor. 68 appearances off the bench. Nine goals. Lots of willing running and hard graft. A couple of really good goals in there, the Preston one which won us the game for example stands out. An absolute gentleman, never complained, always smiling. Turned down our contract offer because he wanted to play every week. It's worked out well for him. He made a point of visiting the changing room after the game on Saturday, and finding such as myself, to say hello. Happy that he's happy. David Speedie never scored for us did he? Chris Wood?
I'm in agreement, although I was sad to see Speedie go. He was more of a midfielder for us from memory back then. My memory is shot TBH, so I'm sure others like Big Lil will correct me... Wood certainly showed nothing much certainly with us. Looked like a carthorse. Victor is only 24. A lot of strikers don't find their feet till around then TBH. He may yet make a Championship level striker, who knows.
I don't wish cauley was still here I think he has had his day. Vic like I said didn't have many starts or was given a run of games in his 5 years but I genuinely wish him all the best and I think he his capable to prove his doubters wrong.
The point being - not every player is a success at every club. That's part of the beauty of the game I guess.
Do not forget there are lies, damned lies and statistics. Watching the player is in my opinion the best way.
