Rod Senior was indeed in my class. He had a band called Rod And The Mockers, which, if memory serves me right, was a warm-up act at the Civic, before The Who came on. I remember that he and Ronnie Kaye dressed as Batman and Robin when in the 6th form for a High School dance. I saw him order "two Batpints" in the Grey Horse before the dance. I don't think Rod went to Oxford, though I may be wrong. He was a bit of a character and always had a smile on his face.
I didnt express myself well, I meany a blue blazer in the 6th form. My special memories were of Blod and Pobbles the chemistry and biology teachers.
I might be wrong with the Oxford bit but he was definitely at Uni doing a BSc. He was a character as you say and I'm sure he later went over to the USA to make his fortune.
The last I heard of him, perhaps 10 years ago, he said he was living on a USA golf course. I'm not sure how literally that was meant. As you say, he certainly went to university and was definitely on the science side.
A mate of mine, ex Holgate, called Dennis Lawson, used to play bass guitar in that band from what I remember. Not seen Dennis in decades, unfortunately.
After reading this I did a bit of googling and found this article from the Chronicle 15 years ago in which both Rod and Melvyn Lunn were trying to get a reunion going. https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/843/long-distance-friends-organise-reunion No idea whether that got off the ground.
Shouldn't that be 15 years ago? I don't think it got off the ground, though I think it was via Friends Reunited that I found out about Rod being in the USA.
