And going by people on here, so was the one before, and the one before that....... etc, etc, etc. I think the constant whingeing about referees makes us sound childish, and bad losers to boot (even when we're winning!) Mini-massives!
Could it be possible that most refs, trained by and working under the direction of Mike Riley, are actually ****?
I think i get the gist of these ramblings. I’m a bully for calling out sexist comments? I should let things lie because it’s just how things are? You know what. I’ve had 50+ years of sexism, and it’s been most apparent to me in a football setting. Only yesterday my daughter asked me why I played hockey. She couldn’t believe that girls weren’t allowed to play football. And do you know what? The worst thing is that thousands of people like me missed out on playing football, because no one challenged it. We just accepted that was how it was. There is no good reason that women can’t be footballers, referees, pundits etc, yet we still get this sexist b0llox, even now. Imagine being stopped from playing the most popular sport in the world, just because of your gender. So, sorry if I see something that is sexist, I am going to call it out. And no, I’m not on my own. There are plenty of people who have done the same.
I don't care. They are there to referee the game in difficult circumstances. Players and supporters must respect their decisions and get on with it. The referee is the same for both sides, unless we're going down the road of conspiracy theories.
the penalty decisions have been well covered so I will not comment further. However, I would imagine that Mr. Speedie got a lift home on the Fleetwood coach. I watched on I-Follow last night. The referee looked crestfallen when Cundy's header went in.
Thanks Mido, maybe he'll bring some sense to it at last. I think what I saw of the World Cup shows how VAR can be sensibly used.
To play devil's advocate on this thread, the job of referee is made a lot harder by every single professional footballer being a cheat.
Well said fired. I know how it must have felt, I went to Wath Grammar School in the late 60s and early 70s and it being a rugby playing school, most of the time we were forced to play rugby when we all wanted to play footy. Towards the end of my time there (we had a new headmaster as I went into 6th form) it became much more modern in outlook, me and my mates were allowed to play hockey and the girls were allowed to play footy. There is absolutely no place for sexism or racism.
A football fan appears in court for assaulting a Referee, by throwing tomatoes at him. The judge asks how do justify the two black eyes an broken nose. The fan sez they were Tinned yer honour.
Agree. A couple of seasons back one of the opposition was running through on goal & Pinnock took him out in the first 10 minutes. It was a clear red card but the ref only booked him. We ended up winning. We proper got away with one. I came on here to read people saying we were against 12 men & how the red was against us. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I think people often watch it through Red tinted glasses.
Refs aren’t biased, that would be ridiculous. Decisions are quite often very close calls, sometimes can go either way. I do think we have been on the rough end of a few in the last two games. Let’s hope they do even themselves out.
A fustrated Michael Duff approached the Referee after the Match an sez, That was a great game. Oh, Really, replied the Referee with a smile, clearly flattered and full of grandiosity. Yes, replied Duff, wish you had seen it.
