I'm going against public opinion because up to around the 77th minute ( mads pen )I thought the ref was having an OK sort of match ...he wasn't brilliant but I don't think he was biased...then from giving the pen he just folded and lost the plot...if theirs was a penalty then he should have given the one in the first half when Cole went down in the box let alone the one that caused the controversy whereby duff got sent to the stands and two players got booked in the aftermath of it all or so it seemed The guy running the line weststand side missed all sorts of stuff all night for both sides which was frustrating and when duff was arguing the decisions that went against us on one occasion the ref told him I didn't see it..( lip read it as clear as day)..Duff was on at the 4th official most of the night and if I'm not mistaken it looked like both benches were chelping at each other on and off throughout the game ...when Duff saw our 2nd penalty appeal turned down the Teddy bear the cot and bath water went through the window and rightly so and he complained big time his anger aimed at the 4th official...it was the 4th official who then called the ref over for his sending off....our bench the ref and 4th official were looking at a device with a screen before Duff got carded and finally walked ....overall we beat ourselves the best of times by not taking our chances and in the end got lucky not to drop points..we should have been out of sight first half Cole guilty of squandering chance after chance..mads penalty give away their player stepped across when mads clearly stopped running and their legs got tangled ref bought it...Coles first half shout mixture of a slip but clearly Fleetwood lad had his hands on Cole...did it contribute to Cole going down like he'd been hacked down ref thought not on another day its given . Kitchens booking was warranted but thought he had a good game looking at BBC report it only shows 2 bookings but I was under the impression the names of kane kitchen Anderson Norwood and Williams jalo along with Cornnell and Duffs red went into the refs little black book ..aside from the game is it only me who can see a young Norman Hunter in kitchen from some facial expressions he pulls to his stance and gait Overall well done Barnsley ....heads never dropped
Having seen both penalty incidents from the west stand camera on extended highlights, I thought the Fleetwood one was a soft one to concede & a bit harsh. Our penalty appeal looked more of a penalty from that point of view but still I think Norwood was looking for it.
Remember that well. Those two stole their salary. If it was raining out the field was muddy it was off round Abdy Farm, the golf course and Wath Wood on a cross country run. That was OK but once in a while they would venture out to check on any who took short cuts and made them do another lap.
They don't make refs like they used to. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CknC2D2Av3J/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Even though we knew that if it was frosty or peeing down we would be doing a cross-country, we always optimistically came with our footy boots and no pumps. I'll never forget the clatter of studs on the road as we trudged off up Sandygate. Cost mi dad a fortune in new studs....
Ever thought about punctuation and capital letters? I ran out of puff several times reading that. I agree with most of what you said though. It would be great if Kitching turns out a tenth of the player that Norman was. Not sure that elipses "..." count as valid punctuation in English (says the bloke that uses them all the time).
This thread has set me thinking about the worst penalty decisions against us. 2 spring instantly to mind;- Gunnar Halle at Oldham (80s) ridiculous dive following Archdeacon's tackle 10 yards outside the area - penalty awarded. Garry Neville at Old Trafford (1998) scything down Andy Liddle almost giving him a testectomy - nothing given. Any more?
Caused a hell of a lot of trouble on Thursday night totally incompetent . Had not got a clue from start to finish. the fa. The efl do not realise these useless sods with the whistle and flags cause more problems at football matches and not just on the field. But when you write to them they still back the cretins instead of dishing some punishments out to them like they do in rugby league. Plus they should have var in every league ground and the governing bodies should be paying for it not the clubs.
personally don't want var anywhere near Oakwell. I think it's wrecking the modern game. I'd rather deal with the fallout of the odd dodgy ref decision
But dodgy ref decisions could be wiped out if the fa and efl would realise that the refs are incompetent and do something about them instead of backing them to the hilt
do you think var has wiped out dodgy decisions? there's been some truly awful decisions under var. it's not the technology that's to blame, it's the people running it.
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/seb...erein_id/349/wettbewerb_id//funktion/1/plus/0 We've only lost twice in the eight games he's taken charge of. We've won four in a row. We've scored four in back to back games. He's a lucky charm
Well no var doesn't make wrong decisions its the people operating var that make the wrong decisions but what i am trying to get over to you. Under the present situation with real life referees and linespeople when they make a mistake or have a bad game whatever you want to call it they have to be brought to account not given a pat on the back
Tbf, I think Norwood looked a bit dramatic going down tbf, so I wasn't really surprised we weren't awarded it. Alls well that ends well though, 4 points in the last 2 games isn't bad going!
